Well, she has her uses then! I remember Lionel Blue as well, as I was working more regular hours at the time ... also I had a synagogue as a client and that focuses your attention as well; even after I wasn't involved with them any more, the habit once established stays with you.
As you may infer, I used to listen but it stopped inspiring, uplifting or even (as with Lionel Blue) making me smile ... so now I sleep through it, or more often than not, I fall asleep again just before it starts!
I don't want to sound like some class of heretic but have you considered not listening to it ... or do you enjoy being a masochist at that time of day?

Is he apoplectic or scribbling?
Right, back to Jonathan Freedland's article about Melanie Phillips for me ... see if I care!

Hmm, sort of wish I hadn't bothered reading that piece at all. Thassorl.
You don't seem to be around at the mo' - Ewe is back and GlitZ has left you a nightcap on the Party thread. So, with a fair wind, it should be alright ... g'nite

Are you going already? Don't get me started on Melanie by the way....
Night.

Bishop James Jones ... amazing grace ... loves us to the end ... if only it were true.
Melanie, I thought, Melanie Safka? She wasn't that bad/good ... candle in the rain (yep, it was (only) just before my time as well).
(That floor is very close, must have tripped over that wretched switch)

No, Melanie Phillips, as you well know. here pull this lever marked 'emergency irony disengage'.

Pooter between ears running slow, I did think 'Melanie? etc' but got to the end of the sentence and realised which one.
Have better idea, in the interests of free speech. Let's put this soapbox where you thought I'd fallen; then an invitation can be issued ... we can toss a coin as to who pulls the lever.
If not, you pull the lever ... g'wan, I dare you

I'm clearing off for a while as I feel a bit the other side of secondhand.
Don't disagree per se with your 287 but your objectiveness on this issue may come across as slightly more subjective than you might wish (if I didn't know you, I would be considering scrolling by now).
It's my unsubstantiated belief that a fair proportion of posters in ML with time on their hands carry a fair bit of current and long term baggage; they go to the softer atmosphere of TB/TVH in order to stay well below the radar that detects 'robust' and robust dialogue.
(second attempt) ttfn, whilst accepting that I may be a bit over-sensitive today

Sorry to hear you are feeling rather ordinary.
I think you are right about a lot of posters in ML, however if you look at the bullying thread it is a very good example of what happens when people try to draw a line based on their own highly subjective view of what is acceptable and then try to enforce this by consensus. What happens is a mess. If people cannot accept that there will be petty minded immature posters who will go after people occasionally, purely because of the logic of the medium of MB's, then perhaps they should ask themselves if posting on MB's is really for them. I don't want an enforced anodyne civility to prevail merely to avoid sensitive souls flouncing and getting into a petulant frenzy.
Oops, sorry I think I must have leant on this 'rant' lever.

I had logged off, a load of emails that were best dealt with arrived and I needed to reassure myself that you hadn't got the hump with me (positive proof that I am not in good form, innit).
Sorry you weren't around last night, or maybe you had been following Rebecca Riots' now closed thread. There's a history of sustained clashes which I suppose renders the posters themselves, and many lurkers, hyper sensitive to imagined, let alone real, jibes.
It just weren't like this when I joined, guv, six months ago! Either I hadn't lurked for long enough or beamed in blissful ignorance, maybe both. A newbie on the Bullying thread complained that, being ignored, s/he was also being subjected to another form of bullying; I sympathised with that piq (nearly showed my sexist roots there!) but now know that once you're no longer accorded that immunity, your opinion (ie my opinion) suddenly changes!
Oh, was that the rant lever ... I too have just leant on it.
Have now listened to the download of the radio broadcast of EST in Hamburg last November ... safe enough for late night soothing, say 1.
Really, really have gotta go now, ttfn

I read the first post on Rebecca Riots' thread but read no further as it seemed bonkers. I guess you had to be there.

It went even more bonkers later on ... should 'you' mean 'one'?
Inventory check: depth charges
Psiomniac Posted Apr 6, 2007
Er, 'you'='one' yes although I used a colloquial idiom that would have made the use of 'one' incongruous.
Inventory check: depth charges
kk Posted Apr 6, 2007
When 'bonkers' and 'you' appear within three words of each other, even the intervening full stop doesn't stop one wondering ... a good heart these days is hard to find and all that (yes, sleep patterns totally boogered just now!).
How's it going?

Psiomniac Posted Apr 6, 2007
It's going ok, I'm just about thinking it must be lunchtime.

I tell you, you have to get up early in the afternoon to get one over on me!

kk Posted Apr 6, 2007
Snork ... so, did you rant this morning or was RW smart enough to be wise without sermonising too much?
