Hell! You've Been Busy!
Woodpigeon Posted Aug 18, 2003
You don't have the fish on the bicycle? I think you can get to Peer Review by clicking on the "contribute" button, and then selecting "Peer Review". I haven't put anything in yet, although my entry is nearly finished. Hopefully tomorrow!
I don't know anything about Digibox - is it a kind of TV based system?
Hope you had a good weekend!

Hiya
no i dont have the fish on the bicycle but i think i know how to get it, i have a friend on pc and they sent me a direct link to their page which isnt set in digibox..if i go in through their link ill still be in as me but ill be able to view things as though i was on pc so let me know when you submit something and ill go take a look
oh those buttons on the screen, like feedback, my space and my conversations that h2g2 have here anyway dont work for me, this is why cable users often have the links put on their page
yes digibox is the box cable users have, if i was on NTL i could access the web but being on telewest (dont have NTL in my area) i cant, i come into h2g2 via email and with it being part of the bbc telewest cant charge/firewall us from it!
the weekend was so-so thanks Woodpigeon

I finally submitted my entry - it's about Japanese Knotweed, a fairly horrible plant found in most places in the UK and Ireland. Now other H2G2'ers will start to tear my article apart (metaphorically speaking), before it finally gets approved for the edited guide.
My weekend was so-so too.

i read your article on "Japanese Knotweed" before i went away, but i didnt have time to send you a reply then..it went on a bit didnt it? lol well i would say you pretty much covered everything and i didnt know a thing (nor had i ever heard of it before) but now i would say i doubt anyone could tell me much about it that i havent already learned!

Now you know as much as I do!
Like most things I write about, it just gets lost in my head. I read about it once but it captures my imagination and doesn't go away. The only way I can do that is to write about it in H2G2. I have lots of things I would love to write about, but I have never got around to it. That's probably a reason why I stay with H2G2 so much!
All is well - I'm still here at work. Late.

Hello
i sure do! lol i spose we all get thoughts in our head but mine just wander in and out from time to time
i used to love writing years ago but i havent the patients for it now or the inspiration for that matter, i dont get enough time on my own and once the thought is interupted its gone before i can develop the idea...
i thought when you was posting on h2g2 you was at home, ahh well least your working day seems to be put to good use
i hope all is well and you are enjoying your weekend
take care

Hi IV,
All is well thanks! No death-defying adventures in the last two weeks at all, you will be glad to know!
I'm awaiting the "announcement" about H2G2 on Monday - a bit worrying to say the least, given that they have decided to dramatically reduce the H2G2 staff. I hope the spirit of the guide is not harmed too much, cos I have grown very fond of this place...
Looks like there is an Irish H2G2 meet in Dublin coming up in November - I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it, but you never know!

Hello ,
no death defying adventures in the last 2 weeks? what do you mean? you havnt been throwing yourself off of clifftops? well thats good to know lol
ahh yes i heard there was to be an 'announcement' but ive not heard of any changes as yet, or maybe i havent been in the right threads lol
an Irish meet up? your the only Irish person i know on here!, well i know this woman who's part Irish but she lives in this country now - does that count? lol
i know there was a meet up in my city but i didnt know any of the researchers and even if i did, im not sure that i would of gone anyway though i have been to others before on another site but i have been in contact with them over a number of years, and though i wished id met them sooner, im happy i waited, the whole chat thing is always an issue and you have to be so careful..but saying all that i heard the news on Microsoft this morning and their plans to keep kids especially safe on chat sites - seems to me this subscriptions idea is more money orientated than concerns for the safety of its users, but no doubt other sites will follow suit! though its right to keep people as safe as possible i think theyve over reacted as the majority of people online are about as 'normal' as your likely to find anywhere! as for h2g2 well time will tell if there cutbacks do any good at all but i suspect like anywhere else cutbacks increase problems whatever they might be
anyway im done with my moan for the day, hope yours is going well!
take care

Hi ,
Nah, no death defying adventures in the last few weeks - still gettin' by, although itching for another visit to the seaside in the next few weeks.
So why do you call yourself Insomniac Vampire anyway? Woodpigeon is a derivation of my name, and I took the name at a time I was going through a bird-watching phase. Imagine, 30-odd (very odd) years old and I couldn't give a name to even the commonest birds! Parenthood gives you interests in the strangest of things.
I met a small number of H2G2'ers a few months ago, and I have to say that they were as nice a bunch of people you could meet. I'd love to be able to go to this meet-up, but it will be getting very close to the birth of the twins, so I might not be able to go. In a few months I won't be able to leave my house, not to mention going to Dublin
I must be a real stick-in-the-mud regarding internet and chat rooms and stuff. I have pretty much stayed with H2G2 since I joined, 4 years ago. I really don't know much about other forums - there is a popular one in the Cork area, but to be honest it is *highly* agressive compared with H2G2, and that has been my experience with any other forums that I have come across.
Anyhoo - I'm off to find a Dinosaur CD Rom for my young-lad - I was teaching him "tyrannosaurus" and "velociraptor" today. He's only 4 - I'll make a dinosaur hunter of him yet!

Hello ,
how are you? alls well i hope!
why? well simply because i have on and off for years suffered from insomnia, and though im a bit old now im a closet goth wannabee and a huge fan of Vampires!
i thought an 'insomniac' Vampire sounded funny but for those that know me it makes a lot of sence! lol
well who knows how it'll pan out, maybe you'll get there maybe you wont..at the end of the day you know your priorities..if you make it to Dublin great, if not happens lol
ive been on loads of chatrooms some good some bad, i spose it all depends on what your looking for on a site doesnt it..overall though i tend to think if they could take a little of this from 1 site and a little of that from another, we might have something lol
aha! i never knew you had a young David Attenborough at home, well keep up the good work, he'll need a replacement if he ever retires lol (it is David not Richard im sure)!
by the way hows your system been running? ive been having mega problems on here lately with error pages especially but i couldnt even get into my conversations earlier without getting thrown out! i have been talking to someone in the States and when i go on there page i get as far (more or less) as the viewer tag and then i cant scroll down anymore!

Hi IV,
Wow, new smilies, new logins, new front page, hardly anyone running the place : things don't stay still for a long time here, do they? All for the best, I'm sure!
So, anything weird, wonderful or strange happening to you? I took a day off yesterday and went on another of my jaunts around the coast. No big adventures this time, but my, it was beautiful out there. One day I would love just to take photos of some of the things I see. There's a book in it, I'm sure.
We are still working away preparing for the kids - I have to buy a new car, because most cars don't have enough space. We also got a new window put in the roof of our house, and we have tons of painting to do. My wife was in hospital 2 weeks ago, and just had a scan today. All is well with the kiddies, but we haven't a clue as to when they will be arriving.
Take care,
Woodpigeon
