I spied a anew name on my 'My heart is still thumping' thread and thought i would come and say hello.
I do agree with you that those that show no interest in the Internet are really missing out. This site is brilliant for getting to know people, and to learn new things, either from 'experts' or from individual experiences.
I hope you will find your way around and settle in quickly.
Welcome,

Thank you.
May I ask a couple of questions? Just above the word 'Disclaimer' there is a little black square (well, it's a dark colour anyway) - is it significant, or shall I ignore it?! Similarly up near the words 'Sign Out' there is a box to the left with a set of certical lines and a little there are two yellowish looking bars with a little square either side; and half of ;another one to the right. When I put the arrow on them, they do not show the little hand.
My navigation skills take me a little longer to acquire on each new site I join because I have only some peripheral vision and use Dolphin Supernova - a superb piece of software without which I would not be able to access the internet at all.
Absolutely no rush for the answer of course! I'll just potter around looking for current discusssions rather than the ancient ones I found when I tried a while back.
Susan

"I finally understand what you are looking at
Brunel, the skin you are apparently using, is supposed to be build with metal plates. There were four rivets on each plane though some wear and tear left several plates with only two. That is the 'function' of the littel black square.
The vertical bars were supposed to slide open and reveal other categorisation effects. This idea has never been worked out further. < A1931988 >

Traveller in Time
Thank you for your explanation; I'll read it again a couple of times, but it looks as if I can ignore the little design extras! I should have mentioned too that Supernova is set so that all background colours on internet sites are white and all fonts are arial. I keep colours otherwise though.
Thank you also for the info about vision impaired researchers. I will follow your link.

Hello SD,
I am glad Traveller in Time was able to help you as I hadn't a clue.
When I first joined h2g2, all the threads I found at first were either old and 'not live' any more, or didn't seem to be my sort of friends, but when you delve around for a while it is amazing what you find.
People from all over the world, of all ages, of all abilities, and we all have something to offer each other.
Try clicking on 'Who's Online' (the button at the top of the page) and dip in to conversations till you find something that interests you. If you reply or click 'subscribe to this conversation' any new posts will bring it up in your space and you can follow.
I look forward to seeing you around,
