Lil sent me.
I'm Batty - also an ACE like Lil. But I'm in the US and probably much closer to your timezone.
If you'd like to stop by and say "hi" feel free to do so - or just reply to this post.

Oh, good! Someone else to whom I can direct all my annoying stupid questions. I hope you're prepared for this...

Fortunately for you, I haven't done anything really stupid yet, but I haven't been a member very long, either. It's when I really commit a colossal c**k-up that you'll be hearing a lot from me: "How do I fix it?" "Does everyone hate me?" "What is the purpose of my existence?"

Except there's so many of them, I can't keep them all straight and I only remember a few that I've seen other people use, and the ones at the bottom of the page.

if you scroll over one it will tell you what it is.. if you click it then you'll go to the smileys page where it is and learn more..

I'd figured out how to find out what it was, but I didn't know I could click it. Thank you--that's very helpful!

I've just been perusing the Smiley Index, and there really are a lot more of them than I'd seen. I don't know how I'm going to find ways to use them all.

it is a favorite of many..
have you found many places of interest on h2g2?

Mostly I stick to conversations, and in between postings, I click on the Infinite Improbability Drive and see where it takes me. It's probably an improper use of a potentially useful research tool, but I'll figure out other stuff as I go on.

Actually you got it just right! It's a great way to explore the site... we used to play a game hunting for Jack on the site but that thread has been inactive for a while..

How does one go about hunting for Jack? It sounds like fun; I wanna try!

You can click on my name and follow the link on my personal space, but like I said it's been inactive for quite some time so nobody is playing now. There are a few different games and fun threads about though.. if you go to the front page it shows the most active threads of conversation - that is a first clue. When you go into a conversation and you find a researcher who you think might have the same tastes and style you do you can click on their name to get to their personal space - then see where on the site they are active.. a warning though - some threads are "private" to them, even though there is no such thing as a private place on h2g2. If you see it's just two people chatting it's best not to post unless invited, just to be polite.

Thanks for the tip. I'd hate to do something rude. Any other etiquette I should know about?
