So - if (and I'm guessing) the H2G2 offices are in London it strikes me you lot might be a good bunch to ask for a recommendation for a good place to eat in said city this Saturday?
I'll swap my Dublin recommendations ("Messrs. Maguire" and "The Merrion Inn", articles passim.).

of course we could come up with some suggestions - as you are right we work and live in this swarming metropolis. What sort of thing are you looking for?

Right well there is Belgo's in Earlham St Covent Garden - a great Beer and Mussels type restaurant (Ashley's suggestion). Or if you prefer Japanese there is Misato - which is on Wardour Street Sam recommends the Chicken Teriyaki Rice type dish which he says is seriously yumm.
I like a place called Satsuma which is noodles and can be found at 56 Wardour Street and Back to Basics (for enormous portions) at 21a Foley St.
Hope that suits!

They have all been noted and posted on.
I've heard of Belgos, I think - so I'll probably try that first....also I'm told there's some place called "backpackers" which does a decent Sunday lunch with pint.
...now where did I leave that Barclaycard

I think you'll find that the "London Eye" is all-seeing , unless, of course, it's overcast.
I've now got a fantastic test of (largely privatised) public transport ahead of me vis. DART -> Bus Eireann -> Ryanair -> Midland Mainline -> Tube ...what's the betting there's at least one delay there!

Don't forget to claim your free teas and coffees on Midland Mainline!

"George", in the Great Eastern hotel, behind Liverpool Limestreet station.
They've actually created English cuisine, i.e. standard English dishes made aesthetically pleasing. I'd toad-in-the-hole and bread and butter pudding ....mmm, totally 'lish

*daydreams of school dinners*
I know - it was great to have to explain what all the items where to my international and "sophisticated" dining partners .
"e.g. So what exactly is in bread and butter pudding then?"
Also: Lancashire hotpot, Yorkshire puddings, Cumberland sausage...mmm, the only thing missing was spotted dick and custard
London weekend (no) television

The weekend was as grand as the weather would allow. We decided to give the "London Eye" a miss as the queue was about an hour long and it was drizzling hence no view; so instead we walked down the bank from Westminster past all the masonic lodges etc. to the tower - though we weren't prepared to pay to get in to any of the things on the way...then popped out to Camden Lock markets for a (totally unsuccessful) bit of shopping.
Sunday we watched people running around in silly costumes doing marathon type things then went to Regents park (which is very much improved since I was last there) for a late picnic, mobbed by over-tame grey squirrels. Then a public transport epic (the train was delayed an hour by a fire at Seven Sisters, and the plance was delayed an hour and a half by crew shortages) before tumbling into bed at 1.50am - hence any typos that may appear herein

Belgos is a great place for Belgian beer. (And I lived in Antwerp for 6 months, so you can trust me ) If you're looking for a flavour of London of course, you could argue that a fine selection of Belgian beers and some ersatz Belgian cuisine is not necessarily representative.
Of course the other point of view is that a fair amount of the good cuisine on offer in London *is* imported, so maybe it is ideal...

Iang - I have been waiting all day to put a greeting on your home page. What took you so long to update it?

Very late arrival at work (not actually on account of too much Belgian beer - I'm out of that) followed by network problems shortly after I started trying to register...
