Good Job Pastey... I found a sight that would do that for you too, but I forgot to tell you.... anyways, it seems like you were enjoying having a bit of fun

A bit of FUN??
Actually yes, more of a bit of light relief though. I've been working on a JavaScript coded wordprocessor come text formatter for the h2g2POST. I think it's about done now and is up there waiting for the bods involved to beta test it. So writing a drop down redirection was a piece of the proverbial in comparison, honest

Okay Pastey, after running a quick test, i've discovered some problems.....
1st of all, as far as i know, the page will be posted on h2g2, yes? Right, well, i was testing the article generator, and actually using it was not a problem, However, when it came to writing the code, something was not quite right when i tried to paste it into a h2g2 page, under GuideML (which i assume we'll be using). Firstly, the page doesn't create closing tags for the IMG tag, and secondly, it duplicated everything... for some reason. It works fine if HTML is selected.. but from what i here, Veg is keen for us to use GuideML.
Cosmetically, the only thing i can think of wrong is that the two columns need to be seperated a tad more... i didn't even realise there was two columns until i started reading it.. it was a bit confusing, the gap is the same size as spaces between words....
Sorry if this sounds a bit patronising, i realise you worked very hard on it... and it's a fine piece of work, i have to say.
Just trying to be constructive. ......

It's not at all patronising. This is want I need to hear, what people want. The articles that are produced by the Article Formater won't be hosted in h2g2. They'll be put in the post3 website. There are reasons for this, mostly because they will come up in popUp windows like the user.cgi thing. That and we didn't really wnat to goo all over the top, making a short article take ages to download. There is currently a test page up and running over at the POST homepage, check it out and let me know. It won't be up too long though, it's only intended to be there while I find and fix bugs.

Okay, will do.
Right, i see how it'll work now... makes sense to me.
Anyway, i'm working on the page to advertise the image hosting... and i've set an upper limit of 100K per pic, with no more than 500K per person... however, i'm thinking this could possibly bit a bit too much, what do ya think?
BTW, Hiya sporky. How goes it?
Hi MM

Without going through my hard drive, I don't know about the size of the limit. One thing that does come to mind though is that if the images are useful to more than one researcher then we shuold be hosting them anyway. Images like the don't click buttons, stuff that researchers in general want to use. These I think we should just host. What we could do is set up a directory structure on post1 (where the images are) with a directory named after each reseacher that asks us to host their piccys, then we put those piccys in there and general piccys for every one in a universal directory. That would also allow us to monitor how many pictures one reseacher has us hosting. I think also that the time it takes for people to download homepages full of images would put them off wanting too many on them. How much do the pictures on your homepage add up to? If we take that and quarter it we should be about right

I'm doing find, Madmunk... And you?
I know I could never do with just 500k, but, I require a bit more than most people... Plus, I wouldn't need the space, so what am I blabbin on about??
Hi MM
Researcher 99947 Posted Nov 18, 1999
My pages don't quite come near that, however, I have many pages, and I simply must have graphics for each page, so, if you put 4+1 together, you get 4

Is that all pastey? I'm gonna have to put some more on then... Is that just the front page, or all my pages combined?
Anyway... shall i put all hosted images under /images directory, and then set subdirectories for each researcher requesting hosting... or shall i just put the directories straight on? The first would be easier to organize... but the latter would give a shorter URL...
What do ya think?
I'm doing fine sporky .... just trying to find some time to sleep...
