... they're all the same to me !

So declare Kid Shileen, in that legendary movie "Cat Ballou", which I happened to see again just a couple of days ago. smiley - laugh

Anyway, it seems that there was a sheath with the Bowie Knife. And the company stamp on the holster is not Crossman, as I mis-remembered. It's Coleman. I bought it, and a number of replica flint-locks, knives and such stuff when I was younger and between marriages. I do also have a Colt .45, no holster except one that I made for use during a Winter Carnival. If you find yourself working up anything on that one, ...

Cat Ballou - I haven't seen that in a long long time.

A Colt 45? I'm fairly ignorant about guns generally - but the 45 is the gun that won the west. I seem to remember that it was the one that the Texas Rangers adopted. I also seem to remember a song recorded by Jorma Kaukonnen with Hot Tuna that had a line: 'I got a 38 special on a 45 frame - how can I miss when I got good aim?'

Another thing I remember is that tremendous numbers of rounds were fired during famous gunfights with relatively few injuries resulting. I wonder where I read that - it mentioned one in particular where two rounders were firing away at each other and emptied their pistols without a single hit.

Well, there ought to be an entry on the 45. smiley - ok

Hmmmm, sounds like the last verse of "Cow Patty", a silly tune by Jim Stafford. smiley - laugh

I'm not surprised that many of the revolvers of the day were inaccurate. Casting and machining were far from precise, barrrels wouldn't have been particularly straight, were quite short, and weren't yet ballistically scored to give a round 'spin'. Even the slugs probably had a degree of tumble, not being well caste.

BTW, I sent you another pic, Wednesday afternoon. Did it arrive? Oddly, some spam filters see my address as a problem.

Yes, I see the pic has arrived.

It looks good to me and conveys a proper sense of the size of it.

In fact, it really works well because the eye keeps traveling across the scene from fork to bowie to knife to bowie to fork again and at some point you say !@#$ that's huge!

I'll send it on to GB - thanks.

smiley - ok

It's now up to the photographers group then. I do understand they can be quite meticulous about what they will or will not accept. So don't be surprised if they ask for something else, eh?

There's your bowie - it cuts a fine figure, I must say.

It does look rather eye-catching, doesn't it? And I see that Wilma didn't adjust the colour or contrast much at all. Nicely done on the writing, mate. smiley - cheers
