Pub Walks
Posted Feb 27, 2012
Mrs D and I went for another walk yesterday. We decided to branch out a bit further afield as we've returned to our usual walks around Surrey a bit too often. We thumbed through a copy of 'Pub Walks' and picked one at random, which was on Chobham Common. This is an area I know slightly as I have flown model aircraft there before it got divided by a motorway some years ago.
It was a pleasant enough day for February, quite warm in fact. We took the 'scenic route' from the start point at the 'Four Horseshoes'. It hasn't changed much in the intervening years. It's not particularly scenic, mainly undulating scrubland of gorse and heather which no doubt will look a lot prettier when it's in bloom. They're still flying models there though. It almost made me want to stick a couple of bits of balsa together.
The pub made a welcome return at the end for a pint.

Create : February Photo Challenge: Kingston
Posted Feb 12, 2012
I've put a couple of photos into h2's Create photo challenge.
They are views of hometown Kingston-upon-Thames taken previously to submit for illustration of two of the Edited Entries
A500347 Kingston and A31268298 The Coronation Stone.
But Kingston is a historic town and has some interesting spots which I think deserve recording.
The photos that I have at the moment are here:

The initial ones are of the Kingston Market Place with its prominant statue, the Coronation Stone outside the Guildhall, and the Clattern Bridge, parts of which date back to the 13th century. The name of the bridge supposedly originates from the noise of horsehooves on the old bridge.

Ask Not
Posted Feb 2, 2012
My 'My conversations' list has been turning over at a fast rate of knots these days and seems to be getting worse by the day. Any other conversations that I may be subscribed to on another researchers space, or PR entries are being subsumed in a welter of inanity. Today, I finally got annoyed enough to unsubcribe, which is the first time I've done that in years.
Really, the so-called questions now being paraded in Ask are not questions at all, but talking points that should be directed to 'Miscellaneous (inane) Chat'. They are merely asking for opinions rather than a solution to someone's problem and opening up discussions that do nothing for what was a useful facility in h2's make-up.

What a Lovely Day
Posted Nov 13, 2011
13 Nov 2011
Indeed, a lovely day. Early morning was a bit cloudy but by 10am had cleared to a sunny blue sky without a breath of wind.
Mrs D and I decided to take a walk. We took an early lunch and first drove down to near Teddington lock on the Thames, parked up and walked from there to Richmond along the towpath. After a short stop we then returned via the Lower Richmond Road, all in about three hours.
Many others were out as well enjoying the late autumn weather. Families with kiddies on cycles abounded, all having a great time in the late afternoon sunshine. Flocks of seagulls were wheeling about being hand fed by the walkers. A Vee formation of Canada geese flew along the river and wheeled out towards Richmond. It was such a pleasant day remembering that a year ago we were knee deep in snow and ice.
Whatever the winter throws at us this coming few months, today is going to be remembered for quite a while.
