Sorry it's taken a while to reply.
Yep, I'm a Whovian, only for the last 32 years or so, and I have no problem with that term or it being applied to me. Having listened with great amusement to St*r Tr*k fans whinging about being called 'trekkies'*, I realise that we do ourselves and our kind no favours by being so anal.
Besides, I'm pushed to think of a better term, other than 'Doctor Who fan' which, though accurate, is hardly elegant. I like 'Whovian'; it's subtle, classical-sounding and most people don't know what it is, unlike 'trekkie' which is obvious.
Feel free to add me to your list of accomplices, and indicate if I may do likewise.
See you round campus!
*Apparently it should be 'trekkers' - puh-lease! Are you on a five year mission of deep space exploration? No. So, you're a trekkie!

That's quite alright.
Thats very sweet of you always nice to meet new people! Feel free.
I agree. Origionally i had a problem with whovian, i don't know why but it seemed slightly pigion holed. It's kinda grown on me, it means your part of a collective, which i like. It's also not used in a derogitory way. I'm sad to admit i'm a bit of a startrek geek! So i can kinda understand why they winge, trekkie is used in such a derogitory way, unlike whovian but it dosen't bother me.
So what did you think of the new series, if you've seen it. I absolutely loved it!

The new series was (almost) everything I could've hoped for, but figured would never happen. I admit it, I didn't think it was ever coming back, but never did I imagine it would come back & be so good that even former dislikers (eg. Michael Grade!) would give it the resounding thumbs-up.
I also have a liking for Trek but I do think the franchise needs to rest for a few years maybe. Give people time to miss it, y'know?
As for trekkies (and especially those who object to the term), a lot of them need to lighten up, or at least have a sense of how they come across. I'd LOVE a Starfleet uniform, but I realise I'd have to keep it a secret. In fact, I'd have to keep myself in the dark about it because I tend to look at those sort of fans as geeks, even though I am one... I have a tricorder, two phasers (Classic & NextGen) and various combadges, but I don't tend to wander about with them in public (apart from a rank pin denoting a lieutenant in the Bajoran Militia, which nobody recognises as a Star Trek badge).
Point is, if you don't want 'normal' folk to laugh at you, don't give them any more ammunition than you need to.
Having said that, I have always got my new sonic screwdriver in my pocket because, despite a passing resemblance to a marital aid, it's so nifty I don't give a damn what anyone says!
I'm at my sister's house on Excemas Day, and I'm really hoping she's going to let me put the Christmas Invasion on.

I know! If you wander around dressed in a starfleet uniform you are going to get laughed at. We dr who fans tend to take things less seriously..
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the new series. I had never heard of Dr Who before it came back, i mean i'm 18, they stoped showing dr who a little while after i was born. I wasn't even going to watch the new series. It was such a revilation, i wonder how i ever managed without it you know! I think what made the whole thing was was Eccelston. I have such alot of respect for the guy, i mean he was a genious, and did such a great job. I'm gutted to lose him. On the up side though the new Dr David Tennant looks AMAZEING i really like the guy, and think he has such a high chance of being one of the best doctor's ever, it's just the way he is in real life. His slight eccentrictiy, his sence of humer, now might be a good time to admit i'm kinda in love with the guy!

I'm at my parentals' house for Wintervention.
Being not too far from *xf*rd, I availed myself of the propinquity* of Toys-R-Us (the nearest one to my home is Bluewater, a long way on foot), as they were going there to get something for my nephew's birthday. I tracked down the Who stuff and was delighted to find the TARDIS Phone Flasher which, for £6.99, is a fantastic little model. It makes the noise! The light flashes! Joy!!
So, fast forward to yesterday. My mum went to the Next sale, got there at 7am, and was back before I woke up at ten to 9, and the first thing I clapped eyes on was a box.
It took me a second or two to really register what I was looking at; it looked like a larger version of the phone flasher...
I gasped!
I'd been looking for the talking money-box version for months, and lo, there it was, sitting on the dresser!
A tenner, marked down to £7.50!
I don't know if you've seen these, but it was bigger than I expected, and on the inside of the left-hand door, behind the 'Pull To Open' info panel, is the phone that rang in 'The Empty Child', while the other sports a little Yale lock!
Joy-gasm!!!
Thinking about it, given that the TARDIS is alive & sentient, do these count as action figures?
Hmm...
By the way, did I mention it also travels in time? (Not really, of course but it does say that!)
