I think you would enjoy "The Incredible machine" by Sierra.
The basic premise is that you build Heath Robinson style machines to solve ever more difficult puzzles. I'm sure there's a demo download out in netland somewhere...

Thanks for the recommendation. It sounds like fun. I assume it's available from places like PC World. Buying on-line could be a problem as I don't have (and don't want) a credit card.

P.S. The only version I have been able to find a demo for runs on a DOS platform. Are there later versions that run on Windoze, particularly Win95? If so, where did you learn about them and where can I get them?

Its just a few levels, but the last one is a stinker!

I've just downloaded the demo version of 3.0. However, I've also just visited the Sierra websites (they're the company that make the game). The game isn't listed anywhere in their current product range or on-line store, although the demo is still available from their U.S. website (but not from their U.K. one!). It may well be that I'm stuck with just the demo until they choose to come out with a new version.

I have e-mailed them to find out if the game is still available in its full form. I'll let you know if I hear anything.

There's a new version out very soon and the demo is available now. Its better animated and has loads more tools but is essentially the same game...but they've chosen to call it "Contraptions" this time.

Anyhow - I got through the demo in 2 days - so its not too much of a drain on free time
