And sorry about secret sub-editing. We wanted to say but were asked to hang back for a bit. Loads of people should start getting replies soon, which will probably draw people back. I am going on holiday too soon - Bordeaux, west coast of France. How long are you going for?

Yea, but Jim if you really didn't want to announce it, then why were the researchers names listed as the editors. I mean did you think we wouldn't check to see who wrote it? You made the hiring of Mark so public that we all expected him to be editing from now on. I found out that other reasearchers were editing the day the first peer edited page was posted.
I just fail to see your intentions to have them keep quiet.

Here, I'll repeat my other post in this forum, because I fear it will get lost without a reply.
What was the point of not telling everyone that researchers were editing? I knew about it the day the first peer edited page was entered. Mark was hired as the editor so publicly that when I saw someone different edited a page, I followed the link and found out it was a regular researcher.
This is confusing for the other researchers. If someone would have come out and told everyone, it wouldn't have been an issue.
I realize that h2g2 is in it's beta stage, and hopefully one day I will be proud to be one of the researchers with a 5 digit number, but it is not fair to the users of h2g2 to keep them in the dark about things. What we need is a what's new page, updated whenever necessary. Also, I want to see a guide specific HTML page. I want to make my pages as nice looking as I can. We also need a suggestions forum.

I'm not trying to bury your comments Set up weasel because they are very valid - I just need to tell Peta we are only going for a week because I am only on contract and don't get much leave. It is going to be amazing though!

As one of the TDV guys will no doubt come on later and say, it is a thing only in the experimental stages. They needed help with the backlog. They are trying to play fair all down the line. They will keep everyone informed as much as they can.

A week will be great. It's also quite tiring walking around all day, don't you think? Maybe enough, can always go back!

That should of course read H2G2 romance over here folks! (But why quibble)....

Ginger The Feisty Posted Jul 30, 1999
Thanks Peta we can always rely on you! Please can you tell us was your comment about it being in the experimental stages referring to our romance or your editorship?

sorry guys, perhaps my comments were misplaced.
I was only explaining why I had two posts that said the same thing.
Have fun

Not misplaced at all. Happy to contribute to all threads. Hope answers helped and no, don't know where other thread is so you were right to post here too....

I wish I had known about The PEER EDITING EXPERIMENT. I would not have organised The Critique Fun Run - which I hope to start this weekend.
I posted a request on Yoz's Page which has been ingnored or missed. Now I know why.

Thanks for the support Peta
I'll always wear it.
The fun run is still going ahead. Once I commit myself to something. I usually see it through. Me thinks 'I need committing'.
The PEER idea is good and I have said so elswhere, although at first I had doubts.
It will not interfere with the fun run as they are not the same thing. I am just a little annoyed that my posting was overlooked or something. Even if they did not want to sanction it. At least reply.
Whoops I am getting emotional - must stop that.

What you should all remember is that criticizing is a completely different process from editing. It's the right of all field researchers to post their critiques of pages in the Guide, whether official or unofficial, and just because a handful of researchers have started helping with the actual nitty-gritty of editing doesn't mean that everyone else can't help them (and us) by posting their comments about pages.
So the Critique Fun Run is as valid now as it was when you first thought of it, and I think it should be a great help.

I think you are talking the second or maybe even the third stage of development there! This release will only be in it's infancy ( and before anyone asks I am not pregnant!)

I think Peta was asking what is beta, as if we should all know. I ran a search in this forum and found no mention of it elsewhere. Is it the PEER EDITOR idea or something totally new.
Ignorantly yours, vegiman
