Come and Join the San Fairy Ann Cycling Club. Based in Maidstone. Kent, United Kingdom Founded 1922 Affiliated to BCF, CTC, KCA, RTTC, KCRRL, VTTA, WCRA http://www.sfacc.freeserve.co.uk What better way to spend your weekends than to cycle around the countryside, or to speed along in a road race or a time trial. The club's unusual name goes back to when the club was founded in 1922. The founder members had returned from serving in the forces during the 1914 - 1918 war. They were of the Westborough Congregational Church Cycling Club. However, some of the members of the Church objected to cycling as a suitable past-time for a Sunday and our founders left to form another club. They had the difficulty deciding on an appropriate name and someone said "San Fairy Ann" which was a soldiers phrase from the war and an anglicising of the French "Ca ne fait rien" meaning "it doesn't matter" and the name stuck. The French and English versions are part of our Club badge. We are the oldest and largest cycling club in Kent, based at Maidstone but with active members from Gravesend to East Sussex and Shropshire. We are a broad based club rather than an exclusively Racing Club. Members involve themselves in a wide range of cycling activities: off road riding and MTB racing, cycle touring, Audax, cyclocross, track, triathlon, officials, marshals, and spectators. We are actively represented in the Kent Cycling Association, the Kent Road Race League, the British Cycling Federation, the Road Time Trails Council and the Kent Veterans Time Trial Association and the Womens' Cycle Racing Association. We welcome any one with the love of cycling, whatever the bike, be it bicycle, tricycle, tandem, BMX or MTB. Whilst the club is primarily aimed at active cyclists, if your love and interest is cycling and you would like to help in any activities in return for the friendship that cycling can offer then we are the club for you.
