Feisor - -0- Generix I made it back - sortof ...

Your page is great!! I, too am a fan of Tolkien - have read the books about 8 times.
Noticed that Madmunk has got the movie - I've never seen it as I feel that Tolkien has written the books in such a way that we should all form images of the characters in our own minds and a movie will influence your conceptions of the characters.
Thanks to Tolkien - lots of grown ups can now read fantasy novels and not feel that they have reverted to childhood smiley - smiley

I suppose your right about films influencing perception of characters. But I find that it also helps you to understand the plot a bit more, and as they say: A picture is worth a thousand words....

I am amazed - a man who can follow the intricacies of Douglas Adams doesn't need pictures!!
BTW - if you start the Tolkien series with "The Hobbit " you shouldn't have any problems getting into it.
HEY!!! Just noticed that the Titanic ad has been replaced with an Amnesty banner - aaahhh - they say a change is as good as a holiday ....
Does that mean that the h2g2 staff has been given leave - or maybe they just had a good lunch!!!

I didn't say I 'needed' pictures, just that they were helpful. As for the Hitch Hickers Trilogy, well I'll never know if I can follow it without images or not, because my first contact with HHGttG was watching the BBC film Version..... But since it only covers the First book, and half the second, I guess that I can follow the rest without pictures... Oh, and I did start the Lord Of the Rings with the Hobbit. But I confess to never have reading the LotR books, I've got the Radio version on CD.... (I just LIKE to cheat....)

Cheers Feisor! I've not seen the video either but I do have all the radio collection on cassette (I bought them AFTER I read the book). They are really good.

I'm upset now, I've been told that my Betamax version of Lord of the Rings is too bad quality to convert to Vhs, so I havn't got the video after all...smiley - sadface Well, it saved me 20 quid....smiley - smiley
