New Pulldown code?

Hi Bruce!
If you find time for it, maybe you could check out my intro once again? I've created new code for the pulldown link list, which can also be found from there.
The code itself is in http://www.h2g2.com/forumframe.cgi?forum=24810&thread=30074
The advantage of my new version is that the options no longer need http://www.h2g2.com/ to preceed the page-number. Maybe you'd like to update your version with it

Hi Skeleton
Congrats on the ACEs name suggestion being the 'winner' & on being appointed as well
Thanks for the suggestion, though I coded mine the way I did so that it would cope with offsite links to pages , midi, movie etc files without me having to walk users through changing it to suit individual needs - but I guess theres room for both versions & next time I've got a few spare minutes I'll update the page to add your version with a description of what each is 'best' at - with credit to you
A word of warning on providing code in forums - when users cut&paste it into their pages (like they do) the site will sometimes insert new lines to fit the code on their screen & that can cause errors depending on the users 'puter, browser, screen size & resolution etc
- so if you get people yelling "it doesn't work" it could be that the problem is newlines getting converted into code wrecking carriage returns where it upsets the javascript. Netscape seems to be the main 'problem' - it seems to interpret line wraps as hard carriage returns.
Until I worked this out I lost a lot of hair trying to figure out why things suddenly stopped working for some people - especially when you can't see exactly how its laid out in the code for the users page

still with some hair, grey

Ah, thanx for the warning about posting the code in a forum. I put it there exactly with the "cut & paste" option in mind, and I didn't realise that it could also go wrong. I would have made a new page for it to correct the problem, were it not that you already promised to take care of my version as well on your page. Thanx for that. They would best be mentioned on ONE page anyway
Let me know when you've finished the upgrade, so I may update my page to link to it.
When I have writing access to the Aces homepage, I will set up a page with a textarea containing PROPER code for the pulldown list containing all the Aces.

My hair is still in place, and there's no grey in it yet, although I'll turn 41 next march
Which idea are you referring to now? The list itself was already done by someone else (don't remember who), I just removed some errors, added a few missing Aces and made it a bit more efficient. The best trick I came up with (in *my* opinion anyway) was the link INSIDE the list, pointing to where the code for that same list can be found
It's sort of like a recursive entry: anybody copying the list, will automatically have a built-in link to the code for the list, which others can then follow to also copy the thing, again including the link for others to follow, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera...
(quite virus-like, if you ask me )
I'm certainly having fun! You too, I hope?
Skelly.

Shhh! Don't tell anyone, but we both goofed up a bit - pages/users inside h2g2 don't need the http://www.h2g2.com/ bit
I've changed the page to include both types of links & an explantion of the differences and a link to the code page (your idea), added you & the ACEs page to the sample & credited you on the code page for help
Have a look & let me know what you think.

almost always having fun @ 42 and greying
ps I've got to go & do some work but I'll check back later.

Shucks! You're right, ofcourse... the Don't Panic page (or your clinic) tells us so: local addresses such as User-pages and Guide-entries don't need the full path!
Well, luckily my idea helped you remember that, so both our idea's could now easily be adapted to a much more efficient routine. I'll check it out after this message, thanx!
See you around soon, Bruce!
