Java Animation doesn't work

Post 1

Bruce

Hmmm it would appear that the Java animation doesn't work for eveyone, even some on the same browser as me.
If you're having this problem please leave a message & I'll see what I can sort out.

Thanks

Animation works great for me Bruce! I do like the jaunty music quite a bit. It goes VERY nicely with the h2g2 mood. Heck, I may even have to bother putting in link to your page ("Oh, bother" said Pooh, as he hid Piglet's mangled corpse) just for that.

Hehe - thanks for the link & in its own pop up window too!
I liked your 'view source' comments in your journal - not enough people use this handy little browser feature.

Aonther handy little thing is this basic html How2H2g2 by Patsey (U45177) @ http://www.stevedunks.demon.co.uk/howtoindex.html

Have fun

Easy enough to do, and thanks for your comment and the link too, but I don't WANT to know more html! I made a very simple website for my company, but the sexy stuff I'll leave to the more advanced people like you. If I learn how to do it, then why in the world would I hire consultants to update my site? smiley - smiley

Besides, advanced html coding makes my head hurt and my toes tired from mousing.

Hi Bruce! I've got a generic Wintel machine and the java doesn't work. I think it used to, but no longer! Oh and I'm using Netscape 4.6.

Cheers!

BTW: Does DNA ever find his way home?

Hmmm strange I haven't changed anything.

There's no home for him to find - its surprising how few people ask that question smiley - winkeye

I tried it on your old homepage and it worked fine...
I dunno that's why I could never work with 'puters like you do. It'd drive me over the edge!

BTW: That's sick, having people find his home when it doesn't really exist. I always envisioned some large h2g2 Tower just over the horizon. Now I'm disillusioned! smiley - winkeye

Aaarggh! I've just checked the animation code on this page against the original page & its exactly the same! I wonder if there's something else on the page that's upsetting your browser & causing the animation not to work.

Take a deep breath! It's working now!!

Like I said, it's a bloody good thing I don't work with 'puters. Elsewise, there'd be a lot of broken Wintels in the world...smiley - winkeye

I guess it's part of h2g2 Christmas celebrations.

Frustration!!!

Post 15

I am going round in circles trying to find an address to which I can send a question about the reply-to-message mechanism. I frequently have the situation where I want to correct a mistype and use the back-erase button and the whole thing vanishes and I'm transported back to the page to which I was trying to add a reply. This is not the only site where this happens, is this a known glitch or is it me....? It could easily be me, last week I somehow set my browser so that it wasn't updating properly and my stuff was seemingly evaporating only to reappear when I next visited the site.

Can you help or at least pass the message on?

Hi
I take it by "back-erase button" you mean the backspace key on your keyboard? If this assumption is correct I think the problem is that most browsers interpret the backspace key as the shortcut for the back button on your browser. That shortcut is usually turned off when you're entering things into a text area (like the one I'm using to enter this message) so that you can correct typos etc. If click outside the textarea & hit backspace then it gets interpreted as the browsers back button.

If this is what is happening to you then it is all working 'correctly' or perhaps more accurately as it was designed smiley - smiley

If you can't use the backspace key when you're actually entering into a textarea then you have a problem with your browser. What browser & version are you using?

A good spot to leave questions/feedback is on Peta, the Community Editors page ( http://www.h2g2.com/U24 ), though you can, of course, always ask me.

hope it helps

There are a few designs. Check out a few other pages. U25 and U24 have different ones. I like Anna's best! smiley - smiley

Thanks for answering this one Bruce. smiley - smiley

Fatlock, as long as you click in the text area first, it shouldn't send you back. I've done the same thing myself before. Try it out and see.
