You can retrieve your details by going to your personal space (by clicking My Space) and the messages should be there.

You can add people to your friends list by going to their personal space (For instance, my personal is U201497) and clicking 'Add to Friends'.

We have no chat site on h2g2, but the BBC is has some at http://www.bbc.co.uk/messageboards/
