Hello, I'm addicted. Any solutions available yet?

You could always try to ween yourself onto a lesser internet society (in other words, any other internet society smiley - winkeye).

Hmm... I tried that, but now I'm more addicted as I realise that this site is far superior.

Get someone to put a parental block on your internet access and have this down as an "adult" site.

Options:
Only look with one eye and it only does half the damage.

Declare your room to be in a different time zone to the rest of your life and don't go out at all - other than for late night acitivity like school or work.

Attach the power supply of your computer to an exercise bike. Then, as you get tireder, the computer switches off allowing you to drop off.

Place an onion between the keyboard and monitor... as it ages and grows hair you will feel more reluctant to log on.

Kea, 'ghost-moding' is my name for going on h2g2 without signing in... this way you're a smiley - ghost, you can read but you cannot post anything. Not as time-consuming, but still rather addictive. smiley - erm I'm trying to cut down on that too.

I'm permanently logged in, so I hardly ever ghostmode. The only worry is if someone steals my laptop (or inhabits my living room while I'm out) it will be pretty easy for them to see what kea has been up to smiley - yikes and what she does with all her time smiley - erm.

I used to be permanently logged on, but I logged off before I left for summer, and now I actually prefer signing back in every time. I am always slightly amused by choosing not to mark the 'remember me' box... ordering the system to forget. smiley - biggrinKind of Man-in-Black-ish, isn't it?

Or, to crudely translate a part of Yehuda Amichai's 'What Have I Learnt in the Wars':

'Let them think that I'm a bush or a sheep
that I'm a tree, that I'm the shadow of a tree
that I'm a doubt, a shadow of a doubt'

smiley - ermRight... so I was posting here at 3am yesterday. NOT good. Admittedly, I had to be online anyway to read something for one of my classes today, but still - I suspect if I weren't ghost-moding and reading at the same time I could have gone to sleep at 3am, not 4am. smiley - yawn

Resolution #2:
I will NOT open another window for h2g2 if I'm supposed to be doing something else.

*sigh* Yeah right. Good luck with that one. smiley - erm

That's odd, I'm finding myself increasingly bored with hootoo. For example, today there was roughly 20 threads I'm subscribed to with new posts. I only reponded to 5 of those because I couldn't be bothered to read or reply to the others.

This is what happens when you try to get more involved with Peer Review!

I think I know what you're talking about, kinda. If I'm away for a couple of days, I find that when I lurk by to see what's up there often doesn't seem to be anything interesting enough to log on for. smiley - erm Of course after I do log on and I start getting involved with things again, there's more stuff I feel I need to reply to.

Not to mention a monstrous amount of backlog.

I've just done a whole week cold turkey, not only without hootoo but internet access generally.

Er....have to say i endured a lot of crap TV i wouldn't normally have watched, the bottom of the pit has got to be "Miss Europe" in frenchsmiley - yikes(NOT my choice, believe me!)

But on the plus side i got some boxes finished and wrote some letters.

*glad to be back*smiley - biggrin

It is strange how some of the weirder stuff seems to be extremely important at the time but then when you have 2,345 backlog items all with "bristle" in them you quickly lose interest.

Rehab Programme Update:

Errr...

Broke my resolution yesterday and logged on after 1. Wasn't supposed to be long, but, well, that never really works out... smiley - erm So now I remember why I made that resolution. Because if I log on after 1, I will go to sleep at 3. And since I had to get up before 7, this was _not_ a good idea at all.

smiley - yawn

It is now about ten past midnight. If I am here and posting fifty minutes from now - well, have you seen Finding Nemo? Remember the bit with the sharks where the two smaller sharks yell INTERVENTION!!! and jump at the big shark? That's what I want to see. smiley - ok
