No baby yet

I'm now a week overdue - there's no telling when this little chap is going to arrive. I really thought he was going to be out and about last weekend, but no it seems he's snug and happy in there for the moment. We've made all the preparations that we can. We keep getting disappointed phonecalls saying, 'Isn't he here yet'? *sigh* Honestly, it's like signing up for a bungy jump, getting to the launch site and then someone says, actually no, we're not going to be doing it today, everyone back here tomorrow, or sometime soon, but we don't know when!

My last working day for a while

Today's my last working day for a while - I'll be on maternity leave from this evening. I'm looking forward to the next couple of weeks, my time before the baby arrives! I'm planning to relax, see friends, watch movies, have facials, read books... And then? What next?

I'm going to try and keep in touch with h2g2 while I'm away, and news and progress will certainly crop up here. So see you around, you've been the greatest!

Big kisses, Anna smiley - biggrin

Well...

When I heard about Douglas's death I couldn't believe it. My thoughts went out to his family and friends and their devastating loss. I know a little of how they might be feeling - my mother died 17 months ago. If you could call a private wish that Douglas has arrived safely to whatever happens next, then you could say my prayers go out to him, too.

I couldn't say that I knew the big man, as by the time I'd arrived at h2g2 he'd flown the bosom of the UK to live in Santa Barbara, to work on the script of the film. However, we did see him in the office from time to time, almost stooping to get through the door. So tall.

On site you could say I'm a wallflower looking onto the h2g2 Community. I've always been rather like that. And this morning I've been reading the threads of condolence, coming in faster than I can read them. I'm so proud to be a part of such a supportive, mutally respectful and sensitive group of people. Best of all I like the fact that many postings have put smiles on faces at this sad time, that memories have been shared. I send out big hugs to you all.

Busy, busy, busy

I had the most fantastic weekend. Busy, busy, busy... It started on Friday with an evening at St Katharine's Dock for a friend's birthday. Found some two return tickets to Genoa for £60 on Saturday (including £40 taxes). Check it out, Ryan Air's brilliant smiley - smiley On Saturday night I went to the Olympic British Team's official party (I was a steward), and I was cheeky enough to ask Audley Harrison and Victor Ubogu if I could have my picture taken with them! Also saw most of the British rowing team *swoon* and had a chat with Greg Searle, and said hello to Steph Cook, and Colin Daley. And it was in the London Aquarium so I got to see that too, and they have friendly rays in a tank who come up to you to get tickled. Then I boogied. And on Sunday I went to Brighton for the day and in the evening Sam was playing at Ronnie Scotts and went with a load of friends to see him. It was brilliant! smiley - smiley

Saved a life...

Last week I went to see my dad in hospital. Nothing serious, but he was there overnight. Poor chap.

As I was waiting to go into the ward, you know, just before visiting hours began, I looked through one of the doors, as you do... I think it was the pantry, where they make cups of tea and so forth. There on the floor was a man lying perfectly still, a scene I'd seen 100 times on Casualty and ER. I grabbed the nearest nurse and said, 'there's a man in there, lying on the floor'. She saw him, and said 'oh my god'. I felt brave, at having brought this case to the attention of the emergency services, thanking, on the man's behalf, his lucky stars that he was in the right place when he collapsed. Phew, thank goodness.

The nurse pushed her way through the door and came back a moment later. She said - as if to break the news to me slowly -

'He's fixing the pipes under the sink...'
