Is there some way of wiping out the useless entries from GW on my personal page? Most of them refer to deleted items but they clutter the most important screen on here.

There will not come more of them from GetWriting, and when you are a little active on this site, they will drop further down the list.

I would keep them as relics,

If there are conversations you really want to remove, I can make you a list with unsubscribe links (but then that list will stay here indefinitely) "

No problem with conversations because as you say they'll drop off.
