Hello Elektra,

Into Christchurch today for Ms Stress's second session of chemotherapy.
Not a happy beginning as the first nurse couldn't find a vein (they're deep-seated) in either arm... call another nurse ( they can have two goes each). Again, no luck so they sent to another department for help... success first try.
They've often had trouble finding a vein but this was the worst yet. Next time they may well put in a semi-permanent feed (a stent?) that will be easy to link into, not ideally comfortable between times but preferable (they say). The dripfeed takes about four hours or so to complete after which she was still in good condition (at least, what we think of as good nowadays).
We're expecting deterioration over the next day or so for a week-ish then a week-ish of improvement then a 'good' week then the next session.

She sends me away after half an hour or so, allowing her to read and/or do a puzzle or two. I have to admit that I'm quite thankful. I go the 30+Km (20miles-ish) home and can get on with things that otherwise don't get done...


As for me - well, I'm the lucky one. I have very rarely had a 'serious' problem and seem to bounce back fairly quickly when something does happen. That's something to be very grateful for though I sometimes wonder if the fates are biding their time before hitting me with something quite special...
