<< As someone of confused national identity who will happily support England *and* Scotland at teams sports (and who really doesn't like it when they play each other, making me I suspect deeply weird in the eyes of both sets of more univocal supporters) ...
I've never felt any national dimension to tennis at all
Andy Murray's good, all the best to him - but he's not really representing his country. Same goes for Yawnboy Henman. Davis Cup, maybe, but Wimbledon, I never find it bothers me one way or the other.
(Ivanisevic vs. Henman the year Ivanisevic won, for example - 'Go Goran!' for me, I'm afraid) >>
*I* could have posted that.
When Scotland play football, I support them. I don't understand why the Scots hate England.
So, you're not the only deeply weird person in the British Isles

Hi GB (sorry, must have missed this last night - I really must learn that 'scroll' thing sometime ).
I'm sure there's a lot more of us out there than meet the eye.
Funnily enough, my Dad was asking me the other day what my first memories of the World Cup were. I don't know why I should have felt more Scottish at the age of twelve, but I was forced to own up to still having a copy of BA Robertson and John Gordon Sinclair with the Scottish Squad singing 'I Have a Dream' Awful, awful, awful ...
