driving
Hi, I just wanted to post my concern at the level of driving compitence, awareness and/or etiquette that is observed daily on our roads. Two areas of paticular concern is the manouvering and signalling at roundabouts and, more alarmingly, the seemingly lack of highway code awareness and/or the lack of common courtesy on our motorways. Has the time come for a seperate test, a sort of advanced test, be taken before drivers are allowed to go (usually all along the centre lane) at speeds at around seventy miles per hour, with only a theoretical test to guide their knowledge or judgement? Traffic jams and consequently journey times, would both be reduced if correct and courteous procedures be adhered to. For instance how many times have you been waiting to proceed at a roundabout and despaired that you could not proceed because the driver that just left at the previous junction didn't indicate his/her intention to leave? and how many times have you been blocked from overtaking on the motorway because someone is ambling along in the overtaking lane (the middle lane) whilst the fast lane (the inside lane) is empty. Both of these scenarios cause traffic jams and as a consequense cause delays, (which in turn causes frustation which leads to accidents). It is my opinion that these problems need to be discussed and actioned.
