I did not join the Get Writing group because l wanted to belong to an exclusive clique or rarefied clan: that is not what this place is about.

Hopefully, GW will avoid the microcosmic pitfalls that some constrictive writer's circles and clubs have fallen into. Where only a favoured few lord it like mandarins over their struggling serfs. To me, that kind of pitfall is devisive and polarizing and can lead to a dearth of creativity.

Which is where Get Writing comes in. I see it as a positive alternative to the norm.

I love to write and now l am in my forties l feel more inclined to take this compulsion further.

I write very quickly.

The less contrived l am the better the read - the keener the result.

I don't care about originality anymore: every plot and line has already been written. The key is to write it in a different way - make it a new slant and give it my own style.

That's all l can do to accompany my enthusiasm. And, improve my ability. Some people think they know all the answers - l do not!

I have an eclectic magpie brain: which may or may not help my writing. I have to feed it at all times, and the rest is just great fun!

Publishing-wise l have had poems, lyrics and travel articles published, and was a contributor to the BBC charity 'Challenge Anika Cook Book', which went on to become a number one best seller. Presently l am a regular contributor to an internet-based satirical magazine.

I am a member of MENSA, the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters, and the International High IQ Society. I also have experience as a fully trained Samaratan (inactive for ten years), and work experience in a Special School, where l taught IT and Cookery to small groups. Other experience includes the travel industry and extensive marketing experience. Currently l enjoy the luxury of working from my own home office conducting evaluations on behalf of various governmental and european departments.

Apart from that l am very keen to evolve and branch out into comedy; drama; sci-fi and anything else that affords drama, really.

My favoutite authors are (in no particular order): Peter Ackroyd (brilliant); Daphne du Maurier (literary genius often underestimated); George Elliot (towering master of the novel); Norman Mailer (avant-garde rogue writer); Virginia Wolf (originality ad infinitum); Elizabeth Bowen (one of the best writers ever: sublime phrasing); Shakespeare (astonishing re. the human condition.); Sophocles (seminal and magnificent); Saul Bellow (break-neck-speed writer of literary richness); Oscar Wilde (hilarious wit!); Ben Jonson (underestimated master of Elizabethan comedy); Checkov (purveyor of human angst); Moliere (superb exposer of human foibles); Voltaire (incisive writer of intellectual prowess par excellence!); Byron (underestimated poet of extraordinary influence); Rowan Atkinson & Richard Curtis (Black Adder collaborators extraordinary! :)); Ben Elton (you've got to hand it to him!).

I write fast and furious. Anathema to some and odd to others: but that's just me. I no longer labour and sweat over it. I just write and get it down, feeling that l now have a healthy connection between my brain and the words on the page. And l thoroughly enjoy the writing process, and never know what might might pop out of my head - even if it turns out to be garbage to others. I just want to write and get something published some fine day!

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
