Dear Frank

I am researching the end of the Second World War 1945 and I loved your story about VE Day in Stockton-On-Tees

Is there any chance I might talk with you? I would love to know more about this story and/or any other experiences you might be willing to share from this time. My father also was in the war.

I can be reached on [personal details removed by Moderator]

Many thanks.

Dear Li-Da Kruga,
I will answer any questions you wish to put on this site as others too will be interested and may also add to the postings.
I am sorry, we learned to our cost it is judicious not to answer by e-mail or post those addresses on this site as it brings in mail from people who object to both the BBC use of the site and the people who use it.
Ask what you wish and I will answer if I can or get one of my friends on site to answer if I cannot. You are welcome to any information I can give as long as you remember I was 10 when the war began and 16 when it ended I was not in any of the forces apart from the army cadets.
Regards Frank.

Dear Frank

Thank you for your reply. I understand that this is an important forum for everyone and I also have a specific question to ask you.
Basically, I would love to be able to include your memory of VE Day in Stockton-On-Tees, in the form of an edited down 15 second sound bite version for a project I am working on, because I am interested in all ages. This involves asking your permission and also if you might have any family picture from that time.

Best wishes
Li-Da

Li-Da,
You may use my story as you wish but photo's there are none.
We could not get film during the war so the old box Brownie went away until the late forties.
One or two official photographers were allowed a ration of film for weddings or events in the area so there are some picture from that time. I realise now a lot of the things we did and saw have gone because we could not take snaps.
Sorry but it was the least of our shortages in war time.
Regards Frank.
