Hi Frank,
I've just read "When the Saints went Marching: The King's Own Scottish Borderers". I don't know if you have read it or not but its really interesting especially since this chap was in 5th KOSB like my Dad, although a different company. I've printed it off to keep with all Dad's other stuff, as I feel it's almost the nearest I'll get to Dad telling me the story. Goalkicker alerted me to it because I had already been conferring with him about SS Manxman the ship that evacuated 5th KOSB from Cherbourg. It's really good when people can help each other out isn't it?
The other wierd thing about this post is that in Part 2, when he gets to Feb 45 he mentions the second in command a Major A D MacDonald being a casualty and how this major has cared about his men. When my Dad went missing in action in Jan 45 it was a Major A D MacDonald who wrote to my Grandparents telling them of the circumstances.
Anyway, must go and do some shopping
Regards,
Marjorie

Hello Marjorie,
Talking to you and some others on this site I have developed a real interest in the 50th and 51st Div histories. I can get a lot of the books from various library's around here but to buy I have to send away.
It is good for you to collect together your Dad's story as it gives you an insight into his life and you can pass it on in the future as I will with my collection with pictures and comments.
I have posted another story myself about the Wartime Dance Halls as I saw them. I was a fanatic when it came to dancing starting very young indeed. Like the music it gave me much pleasure. Time takes its toll and dancing is out now but I still have the music and play as often as possible to keep my fingers supple.
That last story is really the finish of my tales of wartime. I will now read and comment where possible all the other miriad of stories I have been unable to keep up with.
Regards Frank.

I should have said Frank, that the story I mentioned is on this site in the army bit on the front page.
I love dancing too, but am not too hot on the ballroom dancing, apart from waltzing. My Dad was a really keen dancer, he was always first on the dance floor and every female there could expect to get a dance from him!
I will read your story soonest.
Regards,
Marjorie ps 5th KOSBS were part of the 52nd (Lowland) Division
