Being a rock and a hard place

I am a rock. I am an island.

I hurtle through space. That's mainly what I do. Hurtle. I've gotten quite good at it through the millenia. Now, you might scoff and think that any old piece of coagulated star dust could hurtle through space, that it can't be that hard. But you'd be wrong. Well, mostly wrong - I'd be the first to admit that it is easy to travel through space, and that anyone can drift, soar, zoom and even lurch through space, although lurching does take some practice. But hurtling, now that's a fine art that takes eons to master. Even now, after a longer time than you can imagine, I am still finding nuances and fine adjustments to consider.

To hurtle properly, you must cultivate the proper attitude, and you must concentrate. Attitude and concentration - that about sums it up. Early on in my history, when I was just simply plunging through space and only aspired to hurtling, someone came and built a prison on, in and around me (A1074494). That was very distracting and I very nearly never learned to hurtle as a result. However, I developed my powers of concentration and now am completely oblivious of the prison.

At least, I was completely oblivious until recently when a strange ship approached. There was something or someone in that ship that I have a strange affinity to. It's odd having these feelings and not knowing what they mean or what exactly has aroused them. I guess I will find out soon enough...

In the meantime, I think I will downshift and merely tear through space so that I can free my mind to investigate this new development.
