Battle tactics(sept 22nd)
Posted Sep 20, 2003
I started a new series of guide enteries called battle tactics.
After reading all of the white dwarf tactica's i decided i might as well add my own thoughts and opinions to the melting pot.Having had a lot of success with my high elves and more recently with my dwarfs, i reckon i have a good grasp of tactical knowledge. Anyway im knackered. I'll finish the elf entery sometime tomorrow.

Okay i didnt finish my warlock. I was all set, even so far as to start the cloak, and i had the good idea of checking the workshops warlock to see how mine compared.
Ah well, i thought about it at least.
The blending on there warlock is stunning. compared to the fact that i dont have a clue how to blend (well, i didn't, but i do now!) and the fact that his cloak is covered in intricate icons and pattens sort of put me off. For now that is...
At games day i bought Kasrkin.
I had planned to buy a horde of the lovely Bretonnian models, but they weren't on sale, and neither were the return of the king models. Instead, for some unknown reason i found myself at one of the many sales stands, in front of an irish gw staff member trying to sell me things. Over the years of games day and general shopping in the stores, you meet several different types of staff member:
The git - the type that looks down on you as common scum. Usually acts like the boss, and probibly is the store manager. Always has the largest army and always pushes the boundries of legal armies.
The belegured one - The one that does the work for the git. Runs around all the time trying to stock shelfs, buys the lunches, or desperately trying to finish a unit for display. In battle hes always either surrounded, down to his last few men, or running away. Makes his victories extremely spectacular when he does win though.
The cool one - the one that'll chat to you normal person. Usually has extreme hair style (such as a pony tail) or funky beardage. Has themed or standard armies which usually include amazing conversions and stunning paint jobs. Has a good win rate.
The normal one - No body notices him, no body cares, neither does he.
The exception - This is the catagory where our irish friend pops in. Hes a combination of the cool one, gw promotional material, and your best mate. Firstly, he actually talked about the hobby, enquiring about paint scheme, conversions etc, even though they will never effect his life (the cool one). He then tried to sell me a box of plastic cadians (gw promotional material). He did however, make up for this, by coming to find me at the end of the day, appologising for trying to make me buy stuff i didn't want, wish me luck, a safe ride home, and hopes he'll see me next year (the weird best mate).
Anyway along wiv my Kasrkin i got all the special weapons, 2 paints, and a cadian patern sentinel. For fantasy i got 2 wall sections, a gate section, and a tower.
Bye for now.

I decided that im going to enter games day. This is quite a big thing seeing as though its on sunday.
The model im going to be entering is quite a strange one for several reasons:
1) The model i chose wasn't my first choice. My first choice was going to be the empire warrior preist with sheild. I've always liked the model and thought it would be a nice start to my golden deamon entering to do such a great model. However as fate would have it, the one i wanted was the only one not in store. So i instead chose another model which is also well sculpted.
2) The model will be the first 40k mini i've painted properly in nearly a year, and the first Eldar mini i've painted in nearly two years. This is quite a big thing as i beleive the painting style for fantasy to be completely different to that of 40k. Having painted fantasy mini's for the past year, this Eldar could be a system shock for my painting.
3) I went into the store on a budget. With only the four pounds on my card left after black ink, and with a store member shaking his head at my plans to paint the mini in two days, i felt fairly stupid.
The model i picked was the Eldar warlock, the one with its pistol pointing forward and its sword point down on the ground. To me this mini is fantastically sculpted. In terms of detail its fairly simplistic. However, its flowing cloak lends itself well to highlighting, and with such a large surface to experiment with, i have the option to diversify and paint intricate patterns on. IO plan to cheat and use the Eldar falcon grav tank transfers for banding and the like, as these are not prohibited by the rules.
The sword will be painted a metalic blue, or possibly green if i feel it will contrast better. The cloak will be the proud black of Ulthwe and the armour will be bleached bone, possibly white. Anyway got to run and actually do this.

Today being september the 11th i felt i should do a guide entery, though not to remember or glorify Americans.
Admittedly the people who died in the towers were civillians and therefore i do feel sorry for the families. But to use it as an excuse to assemble an army and march across every nation that doesnt 'buy American' (Afganistan for instance) is absolutely appauling.
The second gulf war was an excuse by one dictator to seeze lands from another.
What Bush failed to realise is that the Iraq people are feircely idependent and many American troops have been KIA. Thats why they now want to pull out for a UN force to take there place and die instead.
Dont get me wrong, the americans as a people are great... until they have to make difficult desicions like who should lead the most powerful nation on the planet.
As to the war on terror the Isrealli's have been terrorising the palestinnians for ages (even going so far as to invade there lands and claim them as there own) yet Bush et al support them, why?
As regards to British troops i have a cousin in Iraq as i speak. The war is wrong and i think he is a fool for fighting there.
Anyway enough moaning about america before they all start complaining.
My second thermoplyae article begins on monday. I'm in the process of gathering research. I plan to do an extremely detailed guide entery which will probibly take the best part of two months to complete. Weapons, armour, formations, terrain. Everything will be detailed. I may even try using guide ML to make it pretty.
I have heard rumours about hootoo down-sizing which seems a shame since ive only just joined, but theres nothing i can do about it.
Since becoming a jedi i have wandered around a bit, trained with another jedi (who strangly enough is American) and had a chat with a sith. good things come to those who wait.
I also bought my rocky horror tickets on monday (hello to the people who are going!). Eight tickets for a thursday night performance. Brilliant! student night!
For those of you that know what it is i'm off to games day on the 14th and i'm still unsure as whether or not to enter the painting competition. My dwarf crossbow could be finished in time but the lure of my ultramarine terminator is strong. Then again, i could always go manchester and start affresh. So many decisions.

I'm very slowly becoming a jedi after joining the Star wars RPG.
In unrelated news i go back to college tomorrow. Which isn't to bad in itself. Apart from the fact i have the busiest day of the week having all my lessons and only one break. Plus the fact that one of my friends, Gina, isn't coming back.
I plan to do a guide entry to embaress her.
