I came across it searching for info for my Ian Curtis entry, it should have something about James on it.

Asmodai Dark (The Eternal Builder, servant of Howard, Crom, and Beans)

Id say that the three or four pictures on that one page distgust me but it'd be an understatement. Non of them even try and capture what Conan is, or what he represents. Truely shamefuly.

Im digging around that site. tis very big

And what does he represent?

Asmodai Dark (The Eternal Builder, servant of Howard, Crom, and Beans)

A man who takes what he wants, when he wants it, and doesnt burden himself. Plus hes also supposed to be half-caste due to his lineage on his fathers side (Think it was his fathers father, came from Kush). Plus if we take the figure on the horse, we see a golden belt and no shirt. Conan was more practical then that. Unless the belt was magical (looks to plain, but is possible), then he wouldnt bother - makes him too noticeable, offers no protection, and weighs him down.

Going throught the preveiws...
Conan 8 - Baby is wrong color to be Conan, but hey we'll let it slide.
The next page - The quote from the Nemedian chronicales is way out.
The battle - The only thing i can see which is nicely correct. However not to sure about the horned helmets (seems like they've got a superimposed map of Cimmeria and gone 'Durr hes a viking')

Going through the downloads...
They all seem to be topless - those of what seem to be conan. I have no idea why, because even though he was from the North, and effected by heat, theres a passage describing him wearing a load of furs even though its sweltering heat because its easier to carry them that way.
The picture of him running makes him look like some highland warrior. He was far from that. Taken as a slave at 16, he went off to forge his own lands and identity, travelling across lands and seas. The idea that he'd casually retain kilt and such seems odd. But anyway let it be.

The others still have the color issue though. And he seems like a nice chap...
Go and have a look for the barbarian by Frank Frazetta. Thats how he should look. Grim as anything, feirce, as described by Howard, and with a woman about his feet.

That and Robert E Howard isnt mentioned... Thats the main gripe

"This top-selling new series faithfully expands on original author Robert E. Howard's literary creation."

Whose the picture of?

Most of the pictures have him as white (as i explained) when he was half caste (as explained).

So you can tolerate a white Conan in the movies but not in the comics?

I'm presuming that the picture is of the barbarian I was just using it to source the quote.

But the film pays homage to the books. The tower of the Elephant referance, Zamora, even the Atlantian tomb.

Okay Arnold isnt black, but there was no one at the time who was black and had that physique that was essential to the charecter of Conan due to his Atlantian heritage. In a comic you dont have that problem, so whats the excuse?

A Conan was never given the title of Barbarian. John Milius gave him that title - Robert E howard didnt. Still too much gold if thats Conan, but then again thats personal opinion.

There must have been, just not anyone famous.

Didn't the cartoon have a white Conan? That's the only Barbarian thing I watched and all I remember is the first two linesof the theme tune...

True but then again, like the comic, it seems utter rubbish.

The only referances to Robert E Howard are on the Busts and on the expanding his world quote you mentioned, which sounds like they've gotten the stories and background and are now going to pillage them and wreck the conan from the books

Hm, this sounds to be going into Peter Jackson territory...

The comic and/or the cartoon could never begin to convay what Robert E Howard created. Theres far too many scantily clad women, horrific murders, and many ravagings for them.

Unless it was some form of anime thing, at which point he would turn in his grave.
