I love your nickname! It made me laugh! smiley - laugh

Welcome to h2g2, jerk (I don't know if I like writing that)! My name is Shea, and I am an Assistant Community Editor (ACE). We're a group of volunteers that wander about welcoming and helping new Researchers. If you want to ask me a question, or need help with anything, just hit the "Reply" button and leave a message, I'll pop back in and help you in any way I can!

I'm sorry to hear that you have writer's block! I hope you can crash through that block and start writing Entries for the Guide! smiley - biggrin

If you're interested, I made a page with a list of links that you might like to check out. It's at A534953

If you ever want to talk to a Researcher, just click on their name. That will take you to their Personal Space, and you can leave them a message there (like I'm doing now!) by clicking on the 'Discuss this Entry' button.

Most importantly, have fun! You might find yourself meeting some great new friends! I know I have! smiley - smiley

Thanks for the greatings! I'm an artist also, I mostly just do pencil art, detailed drawings of faces and the human form. I like the contrast of black and white. My favorite tool is a .o5 mechanical pencil. Anyway I'm trying to negotiate my way through this site so i can use it to my advantage. I'm having problems with the pictures, I cant figure out how to cut and paste. I feel like Adams, wrestleing with his closet of donglie things. I guess i could use some assistance. On the lighter side im learning to type pretty well but still have to watch my fingers carefully. I hope to contibute to this guide and talk with everyone. I would like to add some picture to this reply but as I said earlier, I dont dont know how so here is a sideways smily face 8}

I love using charcoals for the contrast also! My favorite thing to draw is the human form. It's what we always used in art school, so it's what I do best.

What sort of pictures are you trying to use with the site? If you want to know how to make the smileys, the page with a full list of smileys is here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/Smiley

When you cut and paste from a conversation, it just puts the words that are used in the code for the smileys, and you have to put < before and > after the word. That should make cutting and pasting easier. It's funny, but after a bit, it's easy to remember the smileys you use most. There are some I always forget, and have to look them up.

Another thing about smileys: If you click on a smiley that is in a conversation, it will take you right to the Smiley page, and right to the spot on the page that gives you the code for typing it yourself!

For regular pictures, there's a library full of pictures you can use in Guide Entries, or on your Personal Space: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A692741
Unfortunately, we can't put picture of our own on the site, but there's plenty to choose from in the library. If you'd like help putting them on your page, just ask. smiley - smiley

It's always best to check what you've typed. I sometimes take for granted that I'm doing it right, and can end up being embarrassed! smiley - winkeye

I hope I made sense in what I told you.

It looks like Isabel *might* be headed south of here ... I'd be happiest if it headed out to sea, but I suppose walloping someone else is the next best thing. smiley - winkeye

I'm not entirely sure if this will work, but by doing the old "hovering the mouse over the link trick", I get the regular h2g2 url with RandomEditedEntry at the end. Give it a try! smiley - towel

Okay, I re-did it, and it works. I don't know if it's because it's in caps, or because there are no spaces between the items, but this one works:

Thankssmiley - smiley trial and error you know? I found out today that I cant paste my own art into journalsmiley - sadface I understand I'd need to be a CA to do this, so I downloaded the files necessary, but was told that msPaint wont be adiquate(thats all I have) I'll give up on it for now since I dont know how to use fetch and the other program. Did you weather the storm all right?

Hi there, jerk gently!!!

Post 18

Shea the Sarcastic

Being a CA doesn't mean we can just do any old artwork, though. It needs to get "blobbed" on the h2g2 end, and I could ftp anything I wanted, but if they don't put it in the proper "format", it wouldn't go anywhere. smiley - erm

The storm went west of us, so we just got high winds, some rain and high surf. Not a problem! smiley - surfer
