Gnomon - time to move on Started conversation Jul 11, 2011
Hi Neal. I'm sub-editing 'Gerald' at A84729603.
My first question. You've spelt one person's name in two different ways:
Petra Jirusova
Petra Jirosova
Is it a 'u' or an 'o' after the 'r'?
G

Hi again, Gnomon,
H2g2 is certainly keeping you busy. And I'm the lucky one.
It is Petra Jirusova, although there is an accent on the s and another on the a as here:
http://badoo.com/directory/people/112/46653/
Hope that helps. Unfortunately I haven't worked out accents yet.
and hope it is easier than Kew which entered the Guide today!
for your help.

Thanks, MMF. I can manage the accents all right.
š does an s with a little cup on it in an Entry.
á do an a with a rising accent.

The structure of your "Gerald" entry is a bit scrambled - you say "let's deal with the question of why we should care first", then go straight into telling us who Gerald is, never mentioning why we should care. Then in the next section, you tell us who Gerald is again.
I think I can put a better structure on it, but I'll have to write a few sentences myself. Have I your permission to try this? I'll let you see it and decide whether you're happy before I send it back to the Eds.

Gnomon, feel free.
You know I trust you, as you understand the correct way to make it flow properly.

Have a look at it now and see if you're happy with the way it is structured. A84729603
I'm not finished sub-editing yet, but it is most of the way there.

Very good. Thanks.

held Meets enabling researchers to meet in real life, arranged for like-minded Elephant Parade followers to meet at the Duke of York Barracks, Chelsea, at 11.00 on Saturday 26 June, 2010 to view the massed elephants one last time and to meet up.
As this is being subbed now, maybe it should be updated:
>>And the GGs' next major event?
The elephant parade in Copenhagen which, at the time the GGs attend, will coincide with their first anniversary.
Who knows what their next big adventure will be? Maybe gorillas in Bristol?
Or even have their own Elephant design at the next London Parade???<<
Maybe:
Since this article was written, seven of the GG's visited Copenhagen in July 2011, to see the 102 elephants on display in the City.
But who knows what their next big adventure will be? Maybe the Elephant Jungle in Edinburgh in August 2011?
Or maybe they'll even have their own Elephant design at a future Parade???

Can you give me the correct spelling of Maan Barau / Maun Barua?

You've got "Copenhagen (100)" and later "the 102 elephants on display in Copenhagen. Which is correct?

Was the "Gold Leaf" elephant really 75cm in height (about 2 feet 6 inches)?

>>You've got "Copenhagen (100)" and later "the 102 elephants on display in Copenhagen. Which is correct?<<
There were originally 100 elephants destined for the Parade. This became 103, but Dutch Artist, Cornelius Corneille, died on the completion of his elephant, 'Blue', which was subsequently sold in Emmen, at their Parade Auction, for €42,000 so was not displayed. 2 elephants were added, called 'Surprise' being created in conjunction with Copenhagen's Fashion Week, 2011. Their positioning is still unknown.
>>"St Pancras, Greenwich, Westfield, More London, etc" -- what do you mean by "More London" in this context?<<
More London is a building complex on the banks of the Thames, between London Bridge Station and County Hall, incorporating Hay's Galleria.

>>Was the "Gold Leaf" elephant really 75cm in height (about 2 feet 6 inches)?<<
Yes. The largest replicas are 75cm high, and cost £2,990 usually, although 'Gold Leaf', being coated in gold leaf, may be worth significantly more. Debra is still trying to get a value for insurance purposes.
. Please ask for any further clarification.

I think I've fixed everything now, and this is ready to be returned to the Eds. Do you want to read through it one more time to make sure you are happy with it?

I would suggest changing:
>>In 2011, the Elephant Parade takes in Heerlen (40), Copenhagen (102), Milan (150) and Singapore (100).<<
To:
>>In 2011, the Elephant Parade exhibited in Heerlen (40), Copenhagen (102), Milan (150) and Singapore (100).<<
Otherwise, if you are happy, so am I. A quicker gestation than my last epic.
