Fame At Last!
Posted Oct 27, 2003
Well you know what, I've appeared on the statistics page.
Yup, little old me!
Apparently I am one of the researchers with the longest postings in the last 24hrs. I'm impressed with myself, I didn't know I could lucidly string 5 words together let alone make a long posting.
Good friend PAGANMOON made it too. She's on the most postings list, so the glory is not all mine (it should be of course).
Please, do feel free to leave your congratulations here, not that I could ever be said to be concieted, but I do deserve the praise!

When I was talking today to Pete Townshend (thud-name hitting floor) I came accross a little story.
Apparently at some time in the sixties a Brittish popstar, Lonnie Donnegan, copywrighted the entire catalogue of Leadbelly songs, the majority of which were traditional blues and field hollers.
Now, that means when someone in the UK played one of these traditional songs, lonnie got the royalties. This of course sparks a discussion. It seemed to be that artists, including Led Zepplin an Clapton, were not making enough money from performance royalties. So they described their blues covers authors as "Trad arranged by...." meaning the would also get the authors share. Fair?
I have other stories like this, they spring up all over. This isn't just a "white man does this" thing. Jimmie Reed covers by other blues artists often had re assigned authors, and sometimes titles.

My favourite song gets an airing
Posted Oct 2, 2003
My favourite song gets an airing on the radio, an absolutely wonderful thing! On brittish radio (number 2) there is very little in the way of blues shows. The best, Paul Jones, does a conversion kit show where listners get to request the song that made them a fan, I did, it got played and you can check it out! Go to the radio box at the top of the page and click on it select radio2 then paul jones then listen again, mine's the last but one. I'll post a link in a wee bit!

Robert Palmer, he of Addicted to love fame, died today from a heart attack. A good voice, and a man with a superb sense for iconography, will be missed.
