Yup, a cat who used to be rather wild but has mellowed in middle age... only thing is, she's so mellow now that she drools

That is very strange. Does she have an impacted salivary gland or something? I heard that that could cause excessive drooling in cats. One of my friends' cats drooled a lot as a baby, but I think it was because it was teething.
