Welcome to h2g2. I'm another of those ACEs (Assistant Community Editors), a team of volunteers that help show new researchers around the site. You can find out more about us at the Ace homepage. I know that some of us have already been poting links for you, but it's helpful (at least I find) to have them all in one place.
Feisor has written a list of hints and links for new researchers which you can read at A719840. You may also find it helpful to take the <./>DontPanic-tour</.>
Learn how to use these smileys at the <./>Smiley</.> page
Some of these places may be of interest to you
<./>Askh2g2</.> to ask a question to the h2g2 community
<./>Miscchat</.> for more general chat
A1041625 for word games and pointless threads
A690518 to learn how to brighten up your user page
Read <./>thepost</.>, h2g2's very own newspaper to find out what's happening on site
If you want to help write the Guide, then try <./>contribute</.>
Need any help or simply want to chat, just reply to this message and I'll get back to you.

Oh, I certainly don't mind all of the helpful links and welcome posts! This has been really fun so far.
Thanks everyone! I'm sure you'll be seeing a lot of me here.

I do have one question...sorry if it's already answered in the help area, but I didn't notice it anywhere...
I see that you have an image library, but can we also link to off-site images that we have saved on our own servers?
I just wanted to make sure before I went off and loaded a bunch of images on my space.

Answering questions is what I'm supposed to do
Unfortunately you can't use your own pictures on site, it won't work. Instead, you can post a link to the site with them on, not much of a compromise, but it's something

OK, that's fine. Glad I asked first.
I just thought of another question **hides** What is the etiquette concerning posting to old threads? I saw a couple of posts that I was about to respond to, when I noticed that they were from 1999!!
Is it a faux pas to post to threads that are older than a couple of weeks...how do you gauge that here? I don't want to be the one nerd who posts to ancient threads.

I've posted on threads that are a couple of years old before (once accidently ), there's nothing wrong with it, you're just a little less likely to get replies. Often it's encouraged to revive old threads, rather to start new ones on the same topic, as it helps avoid clutter.
Key: Complain about this post
