After I quit my job and moved to Sonoma Co. I went back to school for a bit to get a computer degree or something but the more I thought about it the more I realized that if I were going to work so hard to start over I might as well take the opportunity to totally change my life and REALLY start over.

So...I quit the computer stuff, got the Cambridge CELTA (international language teaching), and moved here.

It's been a pretty crazy time.

My wife and I just got settled into our house. It's in Hamamatsu, kinda right in the middle of the main island on the southern coast.

And stuff. How are you doing? I hope things are going well. I haven't had a chance to catch up on everything yet. But it's great to chat again.

Some companies require the Cambridge degree but as a matter of fact there's a school called Nova with places all over Japan that hires and trains just about any native speaker. They're alway hiring.

I have a Kirsten, among others. Ever heard of it? North Seattle company, Briarwood bowl, but the rest is aircraft aluminum. It's my favorite way to relax in the evenings.

Strongly recommend Kirsten. Good times.

Yes I have heard of a Kirsten I think. Aircraft Aluminium stem? How does that affect the heat and moisture?
I started with a Jeneau because it was on sale and now I'm breaking in a Peterson from Ireland.

It has a condenser the entire length of the stem, so you get a very clean pull. The bowl takes the heat, so it's not like the stem gets hot at all. It's also very easy to clean. Almost like a machine gun. You just break it down, swab it out, throw it back together, lock, cock, stock, and rock.

The bowl is also very cleverly designed so that it is virtually impossible to overpack. You'll end up breaking your thumb before you overpack a Kirsten. And you don't have to continuosly draw on it; it will slow burn longer than any other pipe.

You do kinda lose some of the old world style that a full briarwood or meerschaum pipe gives, but I swear by Kirsten. Just throw on a satin smoking jacket and nobody will care.

Ever try meerschaum? I'm afraid to. My friend had one, and dropped and shattered it. But legend has it that Sherlock Holmes went in for meerschaum... eh, someday.

Never tried meerschaum. Besides being expensive and fragile I've heard that thery're harder to maintain a good flavor in. The message boards on www.pipes.org are full of helpful info. Sometimes. You have any tabaccy you recommend? I've been smoking various samplers from thompsons.com as they had a phat sale before I moved here but I haven't found one to settle on yet.

Not really any I recommend. I usually use Cavendish T's, because Burley's have more of a bite.

I know there are more differences than that, but I'm just a devotee, not a real afficianado.

There is one from a local cigar shop I usually get. It's called Royal Cavendish. Can't really liken the flavor to anything, it's just very rich and enjoyable. They also have one called Smooth Sailing, which is a vanilla flavored T, and that is also great.

Pretty much, I ask around, but I'll try anything once.

While waiting for people to guess about leon I just happen to run across an article about it and posted the link. I love gary oldman in that.

Gary Oldman is a great actor. He seems to get away with overacting more than any other actor.

Like in The Fifth Element. Way over the top, but somehow, he still convincingly pulls it off.
