we've been trying to write a present list, but so far it's only one item long

Is there really nothing you want? you dont want 35 toasters right? how about something for your daughter or perhaps if you get money that can be put towards a charity. I'm not trying to push you to make one I just want you to have a fabulous day and not get 35 toasters. How about 35 bars of instead

we will make a list, we're just not very good at lists . We already have a toaster too. Trouble is, because we'd have been living together for a year, we don't have the need for the usual items people give to help the newly weds set up home. Our list is now two items long though, pictures and a dictionary

I wouldn't worry about it

If I got married I'd like to think I would put money towards a charity. All the food would be supplied by family and friends so that I knew I liked something and the prices weren't extortionate. It would also be more personal doing that. But its not me thats getting married its you and I just want you to be happy and I wish to help if I can.

The reception's at a venue run by a family friend and I've chosen all the food myself. I made the invitations and the photos are being taken by family, so we've got that personal touch. With the rest though we're having to rely on the proffesionals as there aren't the right skills in the family. I'd have made the cake but as it's a type that won't last long I simply don't have the time. I'm making Milly's christening cake though

There isn't much to organise now, just finalising the hymns and music and getting the rings. there are a few other little things to do as well but nothing of any significance - just table decorations and that type of thing. In my view a wedding day isn't something to get too worked up about - the life together is far more important than one day

We do, I'm just not good when it comes to organised religion. It's a bit hard to explain, I used to go to church every week but there were lots of problems at the church from as far back as I could remember. I was a church server and just decided that which cloth went under the chalice wasn't really very important and somewhat missing the point. In my opinion helping others, enjoying life and generally trying to be a good person is far more important. The petty fueds between the three local churches finally got too much

I understand where you are coming from on that one. Thats why my parents dont go to our local church. I've also seen that there are a few older generation members of another church that well aren't as nice as the youngsters involved with the same church. Understand me?

Yes, though I was the only youngster. Basically one church had to be closed down, and my church going years were all about the congregations in the parish fighting about when services should be, which church should go, what should happen to the land..

oh have u noticed anything strange about h2g2 recently? I seem to log in and my preference (alabaster) doesn't appear until i go into preferences and click the apply button. Funny thing is I don't need to use the scroll down menu to get to my preference for its already highlighted. Have you noticed anything similar and can you sort this for me?

yep know what you mean. My problem currently is quite the reverse. Although space and time scare me. I hate ticking clocks it makes me feel that life in me is running out.
