Thanks for all your thoughts and well-wishing. 
My mother in law is home again, and I'll call my mum later to find out about my dad. I think he'll come home today, but will have to wait for the results.

I've no idea how this thread got past me! What a worrying time you must be having - at least your mother in law seems to be making progress.
Hopefully you'll have some good news on your dad too.

I just called my parents and talked to my dad. The results will take a while, but from what the doctors could tell, it doesn't look like cancer.
We are relieved, as you can imagine. He got some pills he'll have to take now, so I hope his stomach problems will ease (or even go away).
