After years and years of showing how to do it to the three men in the family, I'm still the only one who knows how to pack, start, and unpack the dishwasher. Same goes for the washing machine.
Clearly, I must either be extraordinarily clever, or this is the proof that women ARE smarter than men, surely?

I can do those too, and I'm a bloke.

We need photographic evidence. Last thing I heard was that your washing machine didn't work - clearly a sign of false operating.

It is interesting. The two guys I live with can start the thing, but are bloody useless at packing it correctly. Another thing I've noticed about housework and living with men is that they take the view that toilets, floors and vertical surfaces can look after themselves.
Any men care to disagree with me here?

I figured out what was wrong with the washing machine and sorted it out. So there.

Toilets, floors and vertical surfaces need attention, but rarely. There's no point having something so clean you could eat off it if you're never actually going to eat off it.
Apart from kitchen surfaces. They need to be clean enough to eat off too.
Unless you only eat take-aways.

I think you're right, snailrind, although my youngest son is very close to learning how to operate the washing machine - once I get around to writing it down for him. He is the only one (except for me), who knows how to use the hoover.

B'el,
After years and years, hasn't it clicked with you that men are helpless and useless when it comes to something they don't want to do . Or they mess it up on purpose so you don't ask them again.
So perhaps we are not so clever, and should make them learn. We make rods for our own backs without realising it
Of course it goes without saying you are extraordinarily clever, just a bit gullible like the rest of us, except for the young women of today who seem to have sussed it! .
Happy New Year

Webbie, that was all a bit - I know very well that they're justlazy gits, pretending not to know.
My husband delivers and connetcs dishwashers and washing machines to other people on a daily basis, showing them how to operate them.

just leave it all - do your own, and that's it. They soon learn that if they bung everything in on "non-fast coloureds, 30°" it gets clean (enough)
as for the dishwasher - ban them from using it and wash and dry only your own things. That's how I got my dishwasher: apparently we didn't need one so I just stopped washing up. Two days later there it was.

I guess that's not really an option, son #1 doesn't even manage to bring his dirty dishes into the kitchen, so if his brother didn't do it for him, we'd soon run out of clean plates and cutlery.

How else do you know you need to wash up if not by running out of clean plates and cutlery?

as a notoriously bad housewife, I'm eager to find out the answer to that one too...

Thanks for the link, Evadne. I prefer the original version, don't recall who sang it, though.
