Ah, traditionally a very successful operation so she should be better than new when she gets out.
I'm sure she'll be glad she did it when she gets back on her feet, I believe the relief from pain is intense.
Pass on my regards.

she will be...my mom is do person. her other hip needs to be replaced too. the car that scooped her 3 years ago made worse. one of her knees muscles is damaged so others need take over the strength. she will be recuperating for a while. the first hip will be toughest.

I know quite a few recipients of hips and knees, and they all say they never looked back - the quality of their life improved so much. I think the new hips now have a lifespan of 15-20 years, which is very good.
Your mum is likely to be like the bionic woman this time next year.
Just tell her to take it slowly - and enjoy her walks, they're the most important thing when recovering.

she can not recover faster than her body wants. before she walked thru the pain. tomorrow she will be 71. still stubborn after all those years.

Your mum is relatively young, and will know the benefit very shortly of her new hip.
Bel, what exactly did you call me.

Wow! I go off for a few days to toil and sweat for a paycheck; come crawling and clawing my way back through the ice and wind, only to find a mysterious message dated 2/15 in my SPAM folder from H2G2. Upon opening it, I discover that I've become a footnote in a guide entry!
No longer am I disgraced with an entryless existence. (Thanks for the credit, B'El. )
Now I understand why I was overcome with an urge on the night of the 15th to dye my hair in my motel room and get auburn spots on the motel towels.(Not to worry -- it comes out after a wash or two in hot water.)
(We won't mention the 360 posts in that other thread. Yikes, indeed!)

Thanks for that, hstwrd, but the credits are from Fizzymouse, she did the entry, I only posted the journal.

Not at all Bel, it was your guide entry that I just hi-jacked for you. My first collaborative piece.
