I do since I published the photos after the last meet. It had stopped for a while, but at the moment, it's really bad again

Reading about that meet made me hungry! Sounds like Frankfurt is a good place to shrink an oversized waist band. I wonder how the applewine compares with American apple cider, which is also available in fermented or non-fermented and tends to vary greatly in character.

The link in <./>thepost</.> is now fixed and leads to the meet report allright
>> Sounds like Frankfurt is a good place to shrink an oversized waist band<< what, with all the sausages you can eat here ? Ftat chance of that, really
But the sauerkraut and apple wine do help with the digestion

I said shrink the waist BAND, not the waist. I've never been much of a fan of the German food they sell in restaurants over here, but you make me think I'm missing something. (Not surprising maybe. Most of the American food in restaurants is fairly repulsive. I was given a plate of very strange tasting grits just today.)

I have no idea what they sell under the name of 'German food' in America, I imagine it to be fried sausages and sauerkraut, because that's what people know Germans eat a lot. Apart from that, there really isn't anything like 'German food', the typical dishes vary very much with the region you're in - like in any other country, I'd think.

then there is the Neue Deutsche Kuche (or Küche? I never get that right) which is a cross between (IMO) German and Italian.
Sausages, lots of pork, spätzle (noodle things), sauerkraut, red cabbage, Düsseldorfersenfrostbraten (I know it isn't one word, but I love writing it like that), knödel of many descriptions, Zwibelkuchen...
mmmmmmm
hungry now.
Btw: we have a Verkaufsoffene Sonntag in our town today. Even though I don't need to I will be there. Shopping! On a Sunday! In Germany!
*faints*

Yes, the influence of the Italien cuisine isn't to be disregarded, lots of pizza and spaghetti and mozzarella
I've never been to a 'Verkaufsoffener Sonntag' myself, can't really see the point in it

The Germans don't have a very good opinion of American food either. (But they still patronise the burger chains.)
This is probably because, by all accounts, the food you get in Germany at one of the burger places is not as good or as varied as what you get at American burger places.
I haven't been to America, so I won't judge it myself.
German food is so varied, as B'Elana says, that you can't really pinpoint exactly what it is.
In the area I live, they grow vegetables which are served almost directly onto the plate, and wine is a speciality. As is tobacco, and, at the moment, asparagus.
It is true, however, that the Germans eat lots of pork.
Morning all! Lovely day, today!
Key: Complain about this post
