Profile of an independent celebrant
I work as a professional independent celebrant and psychotherapist. You can find more extensive details about me at Phoenix Ceremonies website http://www.phoenix-ceremonies.co.uk" >http://www.phoenix-ceremonies.co.uk. or Phoenix Counselling Service http://www.phoenix-counselling.co.uk" >http://www.phoenix-counselling.co.uk .
I trained as a priest some 20 years ago and my interest in psychotherapy began before that, during a year working as a nursing auxillary on a psychiatric adolescent unit.
As an independent minister I work on the fringes, or borders, of the established churches, a place I find densely populated!
This is my first "epistle" on this forum. One offering for a topic, associated to the Death Talk discussion, is how "boxed in" we are at the time of death. You are encouraged to tick "C. of E."; "R.C.";Non-Conformist";"Atheist" as you enter hospital and the funeral arranger is likely to view you likewise yet I find myself ministering to many families who describe their loved one as "a believer" or "spiritual" but in embarrassed tones "admit" they didn't go to church. They strongly wish the funeral service to speak of "reunited with loved one/s" and aren't happy with the Humanist or atheist tag. But officialdom around death seems to have no category for our "believing", "spiritual" loved ones?

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
