Hello Simon
Sorry, I've been a bit busy so haven't been on here much (not at your times of surfing anyway!)
It's rather nice today - sunny anyway.
Am I to take it that you're finishing work on Monday then? I'm off to the West Midlands on Tuesday and won't be back until the 6th January - I'll be ready for a rest then!
I'm on the last lap for gift wrapping - not sure which cliche to use here - 'The end is nigh' or 'The end is in sight'
Will write again before the festivities

Hi Helen - yes Monday is the day - then I'm off to find new work.
I'll be heading to Somerset for Christmas - see if I can sort out my mother through the festive whatsits!!
Have a great time yourself - and as soon as I get a new 'puter I'll be back!!

What do you mean...find new work? Have I missed something somewhere?
I'm afraid my festive season is running true to form - my car has finally died and so I have none at the moment. Of all the things it's possible to do in the world - I think it's possible that buying a car is top of my hate list!
I hope you noticed that I resisted the temptation to make remarks like 'arr zomerzet! Lats've cider down them there parts!'
If I don't see you, have a good Christmas Simon.
Hope to see you soon.
Helen

Only thing you've missed is that I am out of work - I wanted to see if you were awake with a new thread as well - but there's always the old one!
Shame about the car - I'm having to get another one too - work cars aren't a good thing!!!
Have a good one sweetie

I'm so sorry, especially in the light of the remark I made about people being made redundant!
I do hope that 2004 is better for you and that you and your mother can at least enjoy a happy and restful Christmas.
On the car front - on Wednesday evening a friend I made three years ago as a result of an incident at work rang to see how I was and the ocnversation drifted onto cars and my hatred of trying to find one.
'What are you looking for?' said he.
'Well,' said I, 'I'd really like a Saab, but my eldest son has been quite rude about my desire not to sink into oblivion and has told me that I should be looking for something with some warranty and possibly insurance and that is going to last me for several years.' (I did wonder if he meant until the end!)
'I'm selling my car.' said my friend.
'Really? What is it?' said I.
'A Saab.' said he.
Now I've also got my son in law on the case who is appalled that I'm even considering an 'R' reg with 100,000 miles on the clock!
Apparently it's in amazing condition and, because of the mileage, is affordable although it may well only last a couple of years (according to the killjoys).
I'm very tempted but it's hard to throw over the traces when you've had a bit of a struggle for such a long time.
I know you've got problems but I just wanted to make you smile
I also think this story tells you quite a lot about me!

That's fantastic!! I know the old "it's a small world" and stuff but the coincidence of the car is amazing. I hope you're smiling all over Christmas! It's not what but who eh!
And yes - you've made me smile too!
Have a great time - I know about the struggles, but maye this will put a stop to them for you, and next years it's bound to get better for both of us.
Go with the flow, or whatever the new saying is - first impressions are often right too, so do what YOU want to do.
Have a great one

Happy New Year Simon
Sincerely meant!
Just got back this afternoon so spent a few hours taking down the tree etc.
I took delivery of my new car yesterday - not the colour I said I wanted (my fourth red car!) and also, for the first time, an automatic!
However - only 18 months old and with only 8700 miles on the clock.
Reaching the M42, I discovered that a light comes on on the dash to tell you the boot isn't properly closed and that I had no idea how to demist the windscreen! Also trying to work out how i managed to get into the car and still manage to set off the alarm! Otherwise, apart from the weather, I managed ok.
Hope to speak soon

You mean you don't read?????
I couldn't survive without reading - one of life's greatest pleasures
Must confess I'm also very partial to films too though - I'm well known in my local Blockbusters
How's the job search going? And how was Christmas?

Oh I read for sure - just not manuals!!
As you say it's one of lifes many pleasures.#The job search is going - hasn't been much about but it seems to be picking up a bit now
I went down to my mothers this Christmas, not too bad I 'spose but I've known better.
How was yours??

It was fine but I'm glad to be home and I think I'm going to sleep for a week. With two grandchildren aged two and one, it's quite tiring
It's so nice that it's beginning to get lighter again - I'm always glad when we pass the darkest part of the year.
Sorry - didn't get what you meant about the reading - however, the manual for this car is about two inches thick!

Hello Simon
The time has simply flown by - a sign of increasing age I fear!
I do hope everything's good with you and that you've been successful in finding another job.
I've been away again, West Midlands and London. Saw 'Anything Goes' last weekend which was great and also saw the new El Greco exhibition - also very impressive. I can thoroughly recommend the new Jack Nicholson film - I laughed all the way through!
Let me know how you are when you've time.
