Hi, I have a very important question for you. "Who's Online" says you are on now but given the poorness of my computer I don't generally trust it. Here is my problem: I had a look at your page because it was approximately 3000 times more fun than latin revision. I saw the revision support group and though that looks useful, so I clicked on it. It said about signing up but I don't know how. Help because I think it could be kinda useful!!

A quicker way to see if people are online is to look at a person's name on a thread. If they're online, there should be a pair of eyes next to their name.
As for the revision support group, there's no 'sign up' thread as I've only recently set it up. The people on it so far asked to join elsewhere, so there hasn't been a need for one yet. But never fear, I'll go set one up.
Don't worry about signing up yourself though, now I know you want to join I'll go add you.

I see people who's posts always end with the same signature. Is it possible to set a signature or do you have to do it every time that you make a post

...you have to retype it on every post...
However, you could try using the 'brunel' skin. Under prefences go to 'skins' and chose brunel. (You're probably using alabaster at the moment) It has some smiley shortcuts on it, if you chose one of them for you signature, then you only have to click on the smiley..

How long were you on h2g2 before you became an ACE?

Well, I got the badge in beginning of May after applying in late April. I joined end of January, so that makes it, erm, just over 3 months.

Thanks, I was thinking of applying to be and ACE since I'm on here all the time but I assumed that you had too have been on here for ages.

No, you don't need to have been around for very long at all, as long as you're audiion is approved by two or more existing ACEs you should get the badge (if you've been breaking the house rules a lot then the italics won't approve you).
However, there may be a bit of a wait as Abi's still sorting through the existing ACEs to see how many are still active researchers. No harm in applying however.

I have applied and all is well except I have to leave a welcome message for Abi and I don't know how to make ACE be a link to the ACE home page. Same for the DontPanic-Tour

This is probably too late, but, put eg < ./ >ACE< /. > without the spaces. That turns <./>NamedEntries</.> into links.
Don't panic, you've done well to be asked to leave a message, Abi said she was only taking on the best of those who applied over the summer. Most people don't know how to use the < ./ > thing when thy first audition, normally it takes two or three tries to get the welcome message right, and you'll get help from existing ACEs to show you how you can improvie it. Unfortunately I'm going to be with the internet for a couple of weeks so can't help you

Ah, sounds like me, I became something of an agony aunt for the people on my corridor.
I can sneak online for the odd 10 minutes whilst I'm still at home. I have rather limited internet accesss rather than none at all, though there can be several days between times I get online...
Ah well, back to uni on Sunday, then I can get the internet up and running.

Was your ACE application ever sorted, or did Abi leave too soon?
Mullet, you've just been ACE'd...
Mullet Posted Oct 25, 2003
I didn't know Abi had left. My ACE application is still in the process of being...er...processed. Shouldn't be too long now or so I'm told.

Downsizing of h2g2 staff, practicaly all the italics are gone. Now there are only 3, soon to be 2..
Well if you're still getting some feedback then that's a good sign, I was worried you might have ended up being forgotten with all that's happened.
