Do you know? I've never actually *seen* that film.....
How would it compare in scare factor to the horror films nowadays?
(Bearing in mind I have trouble watching the creepy bits in the Indiana Jones adventures? I know... pathetic, isn't it?)
Not that I'd risk seeing it on me tod, anyway - just incase!

... or if you do, from behind a sofa?
I'll stick to reading in that case... I can starve my imagination if needs be, reading horror - or if it's too manky, I just skip a few pages.
Mind you - I did that when I read 1984, and for the life of me I didn't understand the ending atall!!!!

Yeah - Pratchett paraphrased it in his "Johnny and the Dead" didn't he?
"Think of a boot -no, think of a sneaker..." His ending was optimistic and up beat.
Only in 1984 it was a boot in the face of mankind, crushing, forever and ever. Twas a heavy ending, not a happy ever after one - I thought love would triumph over Big Brother, but it didn't, did it?
Poor old Winston and Julia, eh?
A very grim read - made a lasting impression on me. (if you'll pardon the inadvertant pun. The fillum isn't on my list of "Must see agains", either - it was excellent, but ...... I like my entertainment a bit fluffier and more cheerful than that!
Coo! Thats a grim set of thoughts and turn of conversation - lets change it before I start grizzling into my supper!
War of the Worlds is on at my local flea pit - I think I'll go to that and see if it's as good as the Jeff Wayne, version!

No Big Brother alway "got his man" - Odd how the series on tv has been trying to emulate that
WOTW - I've got the thing on Tape - Richard Burton has a very scary voice when narrating eh! Though I never did like David Essex as the Artillery Officer - his voice was a bit too girly for that position

I've got it on vinyl - how dinasour is that?!
You're right about David Essex's voice, tho....
off to wipe dust off of LP and tries to figure out how to work the gramophone......stops, because that's getting sidetracked.
I'll do it later as a reward for myself.
You're not watching Reality TV, surely, S'hhh?
Good Grief! Wass happened to you?

Edinburgh didn't sound too healthy this morning, either - any of your lot get hurt?
I'll check the news to find out whats happening in our august capital - unless you'd clarify, if you've time?
Hold on - saw a header on my menu - I'll go look there, too.

Had no idea - don't often listen to the radio, and obviously no TV whilst I was doing my bits and bods.
Sounds utterly dreadful - not being smart in anyway whatsoever, but I'll love you and leave you to get on with more important type stuff than this site, for the rest of the day - I'd say you'll be up to your ears in Stuff
Try and get back on tomorrow, servers and things dependent.
In the meantime, take care of yourself.

I'm ok - it's the others that are the problem eh!
Not too bad now the set up has been done but expect to be fairly busy this afternoon

And were you?
Not a loaded question, honestly... but are you allowed to give a rough indication when "normality" with your crowd will be resumed - or is that a bit like asking how long a bit of string is?
I cannot help but get angry on behalf of the "Emergency" work force - they're worked to the hilt most of the time, and yet, you get a crisis like yesterday and they manage to pull out all the stops and do even further miracles..and everyone says, Gosh arn't they wonderful?
...and then ignores vital things like funding, resources and more appropriate finacial rewards.
Odd that, ain't it?
(Climbs firmly off soap box because the whole taking for granted bit of it gets me up to the lugholes and todays not an appropriate day to rant about what I think)

Yep still busy - didn't help that a lot of peeps were on high overtime up in bonny Scotland
We were stretched anyway without more - and as you say the remuneration doesn't exactly cover what necessary. Age old Somebodies got to do it thingy.
Normality won't be around a corner for a fair while - we're on CRITICAL Bikini (National) with SEVERE GENERAL locally right now which won't change for a while. Naturally we won't have peeps back from Scotland for another couple of days

Did anyone get hurt up in Edinburgh, btw?
Hope not
