Hiya! I was just surfing h2g2 and I thought I would just say hello.

Well, hello to you too, heater.

You were lucky (if that's the right word) to catch me in, as this is the first time I've been on h2g2 this month, and I'll be off again in 20 mins or so. I'd better get a reply in quickly as my machine has a habit of rebooting itself at random intervals.

Just took a gander at your Space ... I'm quite a bit more than seventeen, and have two cats. No dogs though. I always said that if I had a dog it would have to be an alsation - but I couldn't afford to feed it. And my wife wouldn't be best pleased either.

I wonder how you acquired the name Heater? I've never had a nickname I'd care to advertise, but h2g2 gives me the opportunity tio pick my own, which seems like to good an opportunity to miss.

My friends gave me the name Heater. my real name is Heather. I was writing a letter to my friends once and i was writing so fast i didnt check my spelling. and i seemed to write the name 'Heater' instead of 'Heather'

I have lots of nicknames.

By a curious coincidence, I also acquired my nickname (the one I won't advertise) in the process of writing a letter. I mention this merely to give me the excuse to say 'by a curious coincidence'.

Having lots of nicknames must make life interesting. You'd need a good memory then smiley - smiley

My twenty minutes are well and truly up and, as it's finally stopped raining (and thundering and lightening) I can get back to my telescope. I'm trying, without a great deal of success, to attach a camera to it so that I can get some pictures of Mars while it's still nearby.

well, some nicknames can be hurtful...

Its been hot here all week. but when it does storm, its pretty bad. trees falling over, split in half. i remember staying at home alone once and a storm came by. it was the worst one i seen all my life. lighting, thundering, raining...a lot! lighting bolts hitting the ground near my home... it was very frighting.a storm just came by, and it wasnt as bad. just started to tumble the house a bit.

i love taking pictures, i may become a photogarpher one day.

I hadn't realised that 'here' is actually quite a long way from 'here', as we're on opposite sides of the pond. I have family in the USA - an aunt and uncle in Ohio, with cousins in three different corners. I guess there's a time difference too. British Summer Time is an hour ahead of GMT but, while it's late here, I think your evening has only just started.

I mentioned the weather earlier because it's been front page news in the UK for the past couple of weeks. On Sunday we reached 100 (degrees) F for the the first time apparently. It was a strange thing to make a fuss about really, since we were supposed to have converted to Centigrade about thirty years ago. I don't think I know anybody who thinks in Fahrenheit anymore. But 'Britain breaks the 37.7 degree C barrier' wouldn't make much of a headline would it. Very quaint. But then, the paper displays the date in the American format too. Perhaps they have American editors smiley - winkeye

I gather, from some of your other conversations, that 'life has begun' again. You must really like school, to get up at 6:23 for it!

Anyway, I'm supposed to be writing something for the family magazine which my brother edits. He's going to start nagging me if I don't get a move on.

school...hmm...i HAVE to get up at that time. school starts at 7am! sometimes i just dont want to goto school. i was really bored before the first day of school, and all i could do was count down to it. we were talking about England today in my world history class, and how yall have a record of it reaching over 100 degrees.

yeah, a few hours ago it started. i just got back from band practice, and im going to strangle me some freshman... they will not listen to anyone! i dont know when our band is going to get their act together.

Hello again Heater. I don't get online for long at the best of times and my PC is driving me nuts the moment. I think I've got some bad hardware but I resent spending the time trying to fix it, so struggle on regardless. I have to take it by surprise, then it works ok for a while before rebooting itself. I suspect it's becoming sentient smiley - winkeye

OK, so we know the band has a flautist; what else has it got? What kind of music do you play?

My better half has a flute, though she hasn't played it in a while. We both like flute music, though, surprisingly, we've only a few CDS. I managed a few tunes on a recorder, but I don't play often enough, so I have to relearn them again every time I pick it up, which is a bit of a pain. There's a piano in the house too, tough nobody plays it any more smiley - sadface

Did you suffer from the blackouts?
