Penelope - ex WW2 Team
I have had the great pleasure of being part of this project, working closely with those contributing stories and with the wonderful community members who regularly visit the site and help out.
My original role on the team, three years ago, was to make contact with people who know the World War 2 history of a military unit such as a regiment, ship or squadron. This tended to be people associated with museums and veterans' organisations, relatives of veterans, or enthusiasts who have been drawn into military history through many individual routes.
I then had the pleasure of accepting new volunteers onto the site to join the team of WW2 Site Helpers.
This could be a strange job. Sitting in the office, reading the stories, I often found myself close to tears - not only from the terrible sadness of some memories but also because of the tenderness expressed in many of the articles. Thank you for adding these memories.
