Hm. The only science fiction I've read since teenage has been Vonnegut, and of course DNA. Somehow 'science fiction' doesn't seem to cover them.

Robert Silverberg? James Tiptree, Jr? Fredrick Pohl? Harlan Ellison? Pierre Boulle? Philip K Dick? How could we live without them?

Ranter Not a word I've met.
An english Civil War era political group a similar political group was known as the Levelers.
Karl Marx published the copious writings of both groups and used and modified what he found as the basis of his work "The Communist Manifesto".

Bob, at the same time as the Levelers you speak of, along with the Diggers, there was George Fox, founder of the Quakers.
In his memoirs, Fox often refers to 'Ranters'. He had a lot of run-ins with Ranters.
