I swear chickens are feathered cats--following in front of you begging to be fed, so that you have to push them out of the way with your foot (technically kicking, right?) to get the food where it needs to go!

We have several people around here who bring their chickens to events and walk then on leashes. Usually just a piece if twine tied loosely around their necks. Many are young girls, but we have at least one couple who do the same thing.
We have a woman who has a spinning wheel and a hutch of rabbits. She sits for hours with a on her lap, picking out the loose fur and spinning them into thread and yarn.
Many of the chickens are a bit exotic like 'Rhode Island Reds' and others with silky looking feathers, others are just common hens.
I think most of them have rural homes, although some may be raising them in the city.
It is not really 'kicking' if you do it gently with love in your heart.

If I push my cat with a foot he takes a hold and I have him hanging on my leg for 10 minutes

It's bad enough seeing the things sat on my back fence, waiting to grab the birds in the hedge.
But on the plus side, at least the hedge is still there. Not like the second hedge behind it, which the council ripped out last year. I was pretty sad about that.

Perhaps they were trying to decide if there should be two hedges or none, and after sitting on the hedge they decided to hedge their bets and leave one hedge.

The Dutch city of The Hague derives from words meaning "the count's hedge".
It makes me wonder how many other European cities are named after garden features.

There is or was a town of La Haye in France (same meaning). Because Descartes was born there it was renamed Descartes La Haye, and is now simply called Descartes.

Getting back to Descartes, did you know he's probably no relation to Des O'Connor?

Not that it matters. Every morning I read the obituaries and m reminded that there are people out there that I've never heard of, who had stellar accomplishments, but any chance of enjoying their company has vanished.

Curiously his Wikipedia page doesn't really mention the most important thing; all Morecombe & Wise's jokes and remarks about how bad his singing was.

Was that the sound of mirrors cracking? I thought it was his normal singing voice...
