North/South divide

Post 1

Clairybell, Queen of Lancashire

I love merry old England. The chip shops and curry houses, Blackpool, Wilde, Dickens. All these things run throughout our green and pleasant land. But other things do not, such as pashminas (a southern invention); calling trousers 'pants' (we do that up in Lancashire) instead of 'pants' referring to underwear; and the oh-so-southern rising inflexion at the end of sentences. In case you haven't noticed, I am a Northerner, and am proud of it. I've only begun to notice these little niggling Southern idiosyncrasies since being thrown in amongst them all at university. Is there anything else that separates us Northern 'inbreds' from the Southern 'pansies'?

That up-at-the-end-of-sentences thing.

That's Australian, not south-of-england.

Trout (southern poofter)

Yes I've heard that it's an Australian thing, but it's also ingrained into Southerners.

How are things down South, anyway? London still intact?
