Hello
Wildman - I'm not really mad, I've just been in a very bad mood for 40 years! Started conversation Apr 18, 2003
I haven't been here long myself, but what I can tell you is that soon you'll get a reply from a nice person (known as an ACE) who's job it is to welcome new members to H2G2. They'll probably direct you to lots of useful links which will help you to find your way around this wonderful place.
But if you have any questions before they arrive - feel free to reply to this message or come round to my personal space to leave a post or just say -Hello!
So welcome to hootoo, dive in and enjoy yourself.

Thats right, there ought to be an ACE along shortly...in the meantime, I can give you a few tips that might help a bit. First, you can change your assigned number to a nickname by clicking on 'preferences' in the lefthand margin. That'll allow you to make up a nickname for yourself, modify it periodically, or even change it completely, if you need to.
Also, you can use some colourful, amusing symbols (like; ,
,
,
, etc) by typing smileys into the search window. That'll take you to a whole long list of 'em, with simple instructions on how to create each. And the great thing is that you can refer back to it if need be.
Otherwise, feel free to click on my underlined nickname (above) to visit my space, ok. I'm not an expert by any means, but I can call for help, & I've got a few friends that'd be glad to lend a hand. Good luck gettin' around ok.

If you go to Feisor's help page (just click on the underlined link) you'll find lots of very useful information.
by the way, if you think our nicknames are strange try clicking on the Who's Online button to find out who else is wandering about at any time - you'll soon decide that our nicknames are more sensible than the average.
As for what we talk about? The short answer is, Anything and everything! As long as you don't break the House Rules (mostly common sense) you can say pretty much what you like.
ACE stands for Assistant Community Editor, these are volunteers who's job it is to welcome new members to H2G2, I'm a bit surprised that one of them hasn't already left a message for you - but there's always somebody around to help out
Feel free to call on me for any help I can give.

I think you'll see katy, that we've tried to be imaginative in choosing our nicknames. We actually discuss a good many things, in fact, a number of people have picked up on my interest in curries & we've had conversations about that..., or music, movies, etc. Of course, it depends largely on the person (starting the 'conversation' - one forum or ongoing 'conversation' I pop into now & then, is a bit more politically oriented, particularly - me being from Canada - Canadian polilics.)
Actually, if I can extend an invitation, I'm involved in a very pleasant forum entitled "EYES OF THE WORLD", feel free to pop in sometime, & 'meet'; Terri, JEllen, Bubble, abbi, Neugen, or any of the group (Terri's, JEllen's, & Bubble's cats are an occasionally touched on topic.) I assume you can use the link on my page/space & it'll appear on your's as well, although I'm not totally sure thats how that works.

Obviously you are an expert on 'curries', lucky you dont live in Britain then,we're not renowned for our culinery skills, especially foriegn cuisine. Not much of a cook myself but I do love to eat!! I'm not to sure how to break into conversations yet, as I said I am a real novice at this, give me time I'm sure I'll improve. A forum about politics[especially Canadian politics]is probably one I should avoid, not really a political animal anymore, our politicians are as dull as ditchwater. Havent got as far as Canada yet,North America a few times but would like to go one day.I love to travel!!

Ah, nice to get a prompt reply katy! I'm actually quite a novice to the whole computer thing as well (& to a degree, h2g2 as well), so I can certainly sympathize/empathize there & be more than patient.
To 'break into' or contribute to a conversation, simply click on the under lined title or the last posting (such as abbi's "goofy" or Neugen's "I'm an honorary Muse".) Just mention that you're new, & people can be quite friendly/helpful.

Hi there Optical Illusion, thanks for dropping by, your page is really cool but you do have some very strange friends, good looking but definately strange. Still trying to get to grips with all this, obviously you are a lot more computer literate than I.But I'll get there. See ya later.

Hi there I don't think I am that computer literate at all I have just had a spot of luck and a few tips from other people on h2g2. Thanks for the compliment on my space obviously I am only joking that my friends are jungle animals they are actually far worse in real life (joke)lol. My friends are much better than me at computers but I was secretive about my space on h2g2 as I wanted to prove to myself that I can do some nifty technology stuff. I am extremely happy with my effort I just hope I have done the sign book ok. I don't think the code is right for it so it may not work. Hopefully someone will soon help me though with that. But if you would like me to try and help you with something on h2g2 I would love to help. Ok see you around the boards hopefully our paths will cross again.
