Philosophy
TAFKAR2 (The Artist Formerly Known As Researcher 224317) is thinking seriously about joining the real world but hasn’t made up his mind about whether it’s worth it yet. He married once and is working on deciding whether or not his Small Wife stays with him because she’s not sure if he’s quick or dead or just because he’s a useful prop for the door when he’s thinking. He has loads of kids and often remembers their names if they don’t move quickly.
He is paid a small stipend for attending a job each day – another possible reason for the Small Wife kicking about – fixing computery things that were broken when found and sometimes giving formal IT training to the same people to keep them from breaking the things, success in which might mean he’ll be out of a job because they’ll be so clever. Or something.
He is still very young really, and too tall for the thinontopness is invisible from closer to the ground, so the grandchild isn’t mentioned when attractive young things are about, not that he can mention much of anything from the effort of holding his tummy in until they pass by. And they always pass by. But he’s not bitter and twisted about this, merely philosophical. If only he were rich, he feels, they’d stop passing by. And the Small Wife would stop needing to wonder why, if he is so clever at fixing computery things, and lecturing, and training, and knowing about old books and history and stuff, and telling people how the world could be run if only the Powers-That-Be got wise to his cleverness, why he cannot operate the washing-machine?
